Succulent Cactus Crochet Granny Square
It’s not every day that you come across a crochet pattern that includes the beauty and simplicity of a cactus. The Succulent Cactus Crochet Granny Square incorporates several bold colors and is an ideal choice if you plan to use a multitude of crochet granny squares to create a purse, bag, or other unique accessory. Although the centerpiece of this granny square design features a cactus, it’s anything but prickly, as the edges feature a delicate lace-like pattern. This easy crochet pattern would make an ideal gift for anyone who likes to keep things a bit quirky.

How original is this succulent granny square design? I like that the square is added onto and worked around the motif, instead of having to sew the motif onto the square. That just zaps up all my creative energy that I could be using to make more motifs. I have an idea- how about making a couple of these in slightly different colors/different square colors and frame them as wall art?

A few of my adult children relocated to Arizona, so Ive seen a lot of interesting forms of cacti during my visits. This cute little barrel cactus is worked up as a separate piece, and then a granny worked around it. The original piece would actually make a nice appliqu for another project. I would love to see a saguaro cactus, too, but I may just have to settle for an appliqu with that one.

Oh yeah! This just got saved to my todo list. It is so pretty. I love how the cactus stands out against the white background. I live in Florida and have a glassed in Florida room. This would look so nice in there, even as a wall hanging. Now I need to figure out some other cactus designs to alternate squares.
