Calling all crochet beginners! This video tutorial teaches even the newest to crochet how to crochet a basic "granny" square. It's exactly what any crochet beginner needs when they want to work on their first blanket.

Although traditional granny squares are worked in rounds from the middle out, this provides a more basic approach that can build up to that. This video tutorial breaks down exactly how easy it can be for you to crochet your very own blanket in just two repetitive steps.

Then all you have to do is make a whole lot of individual granny squares and sew them together for an easy granny square blanket! This is a great blanket pattern for you to whip up as a last-minute gift or if you want to squeeze in a winter project to keep you warm during the colder seasons.

You can also use this method to crochet a very simple and basic double crochet afghan - just make your starting chain the width you'd want your blanket to be, and then just keep crocheting row after row until your design is as long as you want it to be. It's so easy!

Once you have mastered this granny square, check out our collection of easy blanket and afghan patterns to learn how to crochet a blanket.
