Crochet Ear Savers
From the designer: "Meet the most useful thing you might come across today: crochet ear savers! My venture into crochet ear savers came about when my good friend was lamenting on Facebook at how uncomfortable the mask she had to wear at the hospital was on her poor ears. I felt bad for her and for my husband too. There are several ear saving solutions out there, but of course, a crochet version spoke to my heart! So quick and fun to make out of scraps and most importantly they make mask-wearing so much more comfortable!"

Tunisian Mask Mates / Ear Savers
From the designer: "A mask mate or an ear saver is an accessory that can be used with a face mask to prevent sore ears. Prolonged use of a face mask with elastic bands that go over the ears can make the ears very sore. There are a lot of health care workers who could benefit from using these mask mates because they have to wear such masks on a daily basis for long hours. These mask mates are made up of 100% cotton and are washable. They require a small amount of yarn and 2 buttons and are really quick to make!"
Give your beautiful handmade projects to someone who will appreciate the thought and love that goes into your work, use up your yarn stash, and declutter your space as well.

Editorial Notes: In settings where face masks are not available, healthcare professionals (HCP) might use homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered personal protective equipment (PPE), since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Caution should be exercised when considering this option.
Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front (that extends to the chin or below) and sides of the face.
We are simply providing options for those looking but want to make it clear that this will not prevent you from spreading or contracting any viruses. It's up to you whether or not you want to wear a mask. We do suggest staying inside and away from others as much as possible during these troubling times. See right below for vital information from the CDC.
CDC Face Covering Information PDFs
For additional helpful information about masks, the CDC has provided three free PDFs concerning face coverings. Between these three charts, learn about face coverings compared to other types of masks, when and how to wear coverings, the do's and don'ts, and how to interact with others during a pandemic.
