How to Crochet the Long Stitch

If you're looking to move to the next step in the crochet world then learn How to Crochet the Long Stitch. This step by step crochet tutorial is easy to follow as the photos are nice and clear. Creating the shell stitch allows you to work up the long stitch which can result in a beautiful crochet pattern. Work up a crochet scarf or crochet afghan using this stitch.


SPECIAL STITCH: Shell – (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in stitch or space as indicated.

Row 1: With color ch 34, Shell in 6th ch from hook , *skip 4 chs, Shell in next ch, repeat from * across to last 3 chs, skip 2 chs, dc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, Shell in each ch 1 space of Shell across, dc in last dc, turn.

How to Crochet a Long Stitch

 

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 1, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, * skip 2 dc,  working around previous row, dc in space between 2 rows below, (Photo 4) ch 1, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 1, repeat from * across, sc in last dc, fasten off and turn,

What a nice way to add dimension to this shell stich. My wheels are spinning, thinking of adding a twist to this pattern. The shell could be in one color and the long stich could be in another color. Better yet, to give it a beautiful bohemian vibe, many colors could be used.

I am happy to see this tutorial on How to Crochet the Long Stitch. I have seen this stitch done in a few patterns showing flowers and this stitch never made much sense until now. With the pictures showing how it's done makes a lot of sense. I can now go back and do the patterns I've skipped over. Such a easy stitch, I'm smacking my forehead with a dah!
