The Brady Crochet Basket is a chunky crocheted basket with handles is the perfect accessory for any room! Use this crochet basket as a unique way to store yarn, magazines, or anything else you need close at hand. This intermediate project is worked up quickly in the round and is made from a unique t-shirt yarn that's thick and sturdy and oh-so cute!

Pattern

Basket Instructions

  1. Start by creating a magic loop and working 6 stitches in single crochet around it. Join the round by making a slip stitch into the first stitch.

  2. Start your round by making 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. Work 2 single crochet stitches into each of the stitches of your round, then join the round by working a slip stitch into the first stitch. There are now 12 stitches in the last round worked.

  3. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into the next.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (18 stitches.)

  4. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 2 stitches.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (24 stitches.)

  5. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 3 stitches.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (30 stitches.)

  6. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 4 stitches.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (36 stitches.)

  7. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 5 stitches.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (42 stitches.)

  8. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 6 stitches.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (48 stitches.)

  9. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 7 stitches.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (54 stitches.)

  10. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. *Work 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next 8 stitches.* Repeat the section inside the stars to the end of the round. Join the round by making a slip stitch. (60 stitches.)

  11. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. Work 1 single crochet through the back of the stitch in every stitch around. The base of your basket is now complete and you will continue to work upwards, forming the body of your basket.

  12. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. Work 1 single crochet in every stitch around. Join the round by making a slip stitch.

  13. Repeat step 12 until your basket measures 29cm/11.5” (approx. 21 rounds) from your bottom edge. You will now create chain spaces which will form your handles.

  14. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your yarn marker. Work in single crochet across the next 11 stitches. *Make 8 chain stitches. Skip the next 8 stitches of your round (just leave them without working into them).* You have now created a ‘chain space’. Work in single crochet across the next 22 stitches. Repeat the section inside the stars once more. Work in single crochet across the remaining 11 stitches of your round. Join the round with a slip stitch.

  15. Work 11 stitches in single crochet. *Work 13 stitches in single crochets into the chain space that forms your handle.* Work 22 stitches in single crochet. Repeat the section inside the stars once more. Work in single crochet to the end of the round. Join the round with a slip stitch. (70 stitches.)

  16. Make 1 chain stitch, then place your marker. Work 1 round in single crochet. Join the round by making a slip stitch.

  17. Repeat step 16 once more.

  18. Cut the yarn approx. 15cm/6” from the last stitch. Pull on the loop on your crochet hook until the end pops through - you have now secured the last stitch. Finish off by hiding your loose yarn ends.
