Bat Wing Shawl
Bat Wing Shawl

The Bat Wing Shawl was designed with the declining number of bats in North America in mind. About six million bats have died from a fungus, which is one of the worst animal population declines in the last hundred years.  Bats are majestic creatures that have inspired many cultural phenomena like Batman, Dracula, and the children's classic book Stellaluna. They deserve our support as a species, so what better way than to commemorate them with a crochet pattern?

Easy

Crochet HookF/5 or 3.75 mm hook

Yarn Weight(3) Light/DK (21-24 stitches to 4 inches)

Try a different type of shawl next - this Oversized Crochet Shawl is so cozy!

So, I am not a fan of bats but I do understand their significance in the eco system. That being said this is a beautiful shawl but I wish there were other words to describe it. I agree that the bat does deserve our support and I hope that in the future they will rebound and make a full come back.

I like the shape of this bat wing shawl. I just wonder how the front looks like. I want to see the pattern how it goes but I want to make this. Just curious.

It is impossible to get the directions!!

Link in not working has an error 404.

Oh no! The linked worked the day I made the comment. Unfortunately, I did not save the pattern or I would share it with you.

Good to find out that Im not the only one that procrastinates and hoardes crochet patterns. The designer made this shawl over a year ago and then tucked the pattern away. She says she is the only one that has made one at the time of posting the pattern so the pattern may have some errors. The one she is modeling in her pics looks awesome.

Oh my gosh, would this not be PERFECT to make for the Halloween season?! I like the gray for everyday wear, for sure, but I am telling you that to do this in black with metallic threads or metallic confetti specks, this would be absolutely gorgeous to wear with a costume dress. Or black leggings and a black tunic.

This looks like a beautiful pattern and not too difficult. I like a shawl that fits nicely over your shoulders like this pattern. You could even make it in different colors which I think I will make it in different shades of blue. I have the perfect yarn for it. Thank you. Now to start crocheting!

The connection is timing out for me, on Firefox and Chrome. "downforeveryoneorjustme" (dot com) can't connect to the site, either. (rating 5 to counteract the 1 -- I wish we could comment without having to add a rating every time)

And today it's working. Maybe they had site problems from getting a ton of new traffic? -)

No it's there I saw the pattern

Dead link. Sad, I really wanted to make it.

The link appears to be dead. -( The low rating is only because of the dead link, and if it had given me a choice I wouldn't have rated a pattern I can't look at.
