The last time I saw my niece she was wearing a beret and I was really surprised about it. She really looked nice in it and I made sure to compliment her on it. I ran across this and it looks nothing like the store bought one she was wearing but I am sure she will like it. This will be a small Christmas gift.

I just love this beret design because of the added ribbon. That makes it really special. I am hoping that the ribbon can be switched out to compliment what is being worn. I know I will start with a basic black and buy several color ribbons to use. I can not wait to get this one done.

I love beret style hats. Theyre probably one of the few hats that just about anyone can wear. Im short, a bit pudgy, have a short neck and a round face, so I dread wearing beanies anywhere except to tend the critters outside in the winter. An earflap hat is a bit better, but nothing beats a beret for style. I love how the bulk of the hat can be shaped however I want.

I'm a new crocheter. I just did a fabulous skinny scarf for my daughter, and have a most of a skein left. I think it might be enough to do this beret to match, but am wondering how to adjust when using a bulky weight (5) yarn. What size hook? Would the guage change much?
