My dad always wants more slippers. I knit the old fashioned boot style slipper. Then I crochet a plarn extra bottom and crochet it on to give an extra layer. The plarn makes the hard wood floors less slippery and the concrete floor in the basement less chilly. It also comes in handy when he needs to take a step out the door in the winter to get the paper or mail. Last year he got 2 pairs of slippers and a golf sock for his new driver with Jeff Dunham's Walter perched on top.

Hats seem to be the big fave around the men in my family. I like making them because they are 'instant gratification' projects (you know, finished in a couple of hours). I love the idea of tv/remote/gadget organizer, but not the idea of the time involved. LoL This year, maybe I will do some hat & scarf sets?

The men in my life (my sons and sons-in-law) are sports fans so this years gift will be scarfs in team colors with team logo on one end and numbers of favorite player on the other. I love gifting unique and personalized hand crafted presents that they can show off and argue over. (Sibling rivalry is alive and well in our family...it's become a tradition.) I'll also be crafting some of the items here for wish tree recipients. Each year our family selects names from charity gift trees (we try to match our choice with our family members, so my 8 year old grandson will find an 8 year old boy, for example) and we gift not just the item they ask for but other useful things like hats, scarfs, and mittens. Thankfully this rule means I can start in January since I know ahead of time how many to make and in what sizes.

My male relations passed away early in my life, but working in nursing facilities all my adult life I have made many crocheted items for the men in the facilities...afghans, laprobes with pockets (pockets to put their hands in and some with pockets for their personal stuff as well as some to tuck their feet into), hats, scarves with pockets, mittens, wheelchair organizers, remote/magazine organizers for their beds/wheelchairs/recliner/walker, decorations for their rooms, Christmas stockings for Santa to fill, handwarmers and socks, and occasional sweater. I have done this for the woman as well. I always make extra to donate to their craft shows too.

A tv/remote organizer is a good idea- one that can hang from the arm of a chair. same idea but for camping chairs, wheelchairs, etc- use cotton thread or something easily washable. My gpa uses his in the bathroom for his toiletries- he simply hung it on 2 hooks.
