Peppermint Swirl Hot Pad

Brighten up your kitchen this holiday season by making use of the Peppermint Swirl Hot Pad. Work up this crochet hot pad to show off your Christmas cheer, even if you're not singing. Crochet HookG/6 or 4 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS:

  • Bernat Handicrafter Holidays, 1 ball each
    • A: 48005 White Sparkle
    • B: 48705 Red Sparkle
    • C: 45708 Yuletide Twist
  • Crochet Hook (G/6 or 4 mm)

GAUGE: 
14 sc and 15 rows = 4" (10 cm).

SIZE:
Approx 8 1/2" (21.5 cm) diameter.

NOTES:
When removing hook from st, pull out a long loop of yarn from rem st to ensure work does not unravel.


HOT PAD
With A, ch 2. 
1st rnd: (1 sc. 3 hdc) in 2nd ch from hook. Remove hook. Make a slip knot with B and draw up through same sp as previous sts. Ch 1. (1 sc. 2 hdc) in same sp. 
2nd rnd: With B, 2 hdc in first sc worked with A. (2 hdc in next hdc worked with A) 3 times. Remove hook. Return to last st worked with A, 2 hdc in first sc worked with B. (2 hdc in next hdc worked with B) 9 times. Remove hook. 
3rd rnd: Return hook to last st worked with B, (2 hdc in next hdc. 1 hdc in next hdc) 10 times. Remove hook. 
4th rnd: Return hook to last st worked with A, (1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc) 10 times. Remove hook. 
5th rnd: Return hook to last st worked with B, (1 hdc in next hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc. 1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc) 10 times. Remove hook. 
6th rnd: Return hook to last st worked with A, (1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc. 1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc) 10 times. Remove hook.
7th rnd: Return hook to last st worked with B, (1 hdc in each of next 3 hdc.2 hdc in next hdc. 1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc) 10 times. Remove hook. 
8th rnd: Return hook to last st worked with A, (1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc. 1 hdc in each of next 4 hdc) 9 times. 1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc. 2 sc in next hdc. 1 sc in each of next 4 hdc. Break A.
9th rnd: Return hook to last st worked with B. (1 hdc in each of next 4 hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc. 1 hdc in each of next 4 hdc) 4 times. 1 hdc in each of next 4 hdc. 2 sc in next hdc. 1 sc in each of next 4 hdc. Break B.
10th rnd: Join C with sl st in last st worked with A. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp. 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc. 
11th rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

This is a project that could really benefit from having several photos or even a Crochet Along video. The instructions say its easy to work up, but its not easy to wrap your mind around how to switch out the initial colors. I remember when I was first learning and tried a swirled project, I pulled it out several times before I was able to get the stitches even.

I've never gotten pop ups, you may have a virus.

The POP UPS are extremely annoying, and I find I don't look at many of your site's features because of it!!!!
