This long and lacy sweater will add a bit of style to your look. Made with a size H crochet hook and light weight yarn, this free crochet pattern is perfect for intermediate crocheters. Featuring slightly flared sleeves and a long body length, this lacy open-front jacket is the ideal spring top. Wear it over a simple tank top for a casual touch or drape it over a basic dress for a night out.

NotesNotes:
-Long Vest is worked from the top down with raglan-type increases at each of four corners to shape Yoke.
Vest features top-down seamless construction, capped shoulders with wide ribbed armbands.
-Wide ribbed Front band fills in the open neckline, creating a little stand-up Back neck, and also fills across the bust with a few inches overlap.
Shown skimming the knee, length is easily adjusted as desired.
-Place a marker at each corner; move markers into the center of each corner as you go.

Base Chain/Single Crochet

Note: This technique creates a Foundation chain and row of sc (Fsc) at the same time, for a sturdy, elastic neckline on the garment.

  1. First Stitch: Begin with a slip knot; ch 2, insert hook into second ch from hook, * yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through one loop (this is the chain), yarn over and draw through 2 loops (this is the sc).

  2. Next Stitch: The next st is worked under the forward 2 loops of the stem of the previous st, (the chain), made when working the st. Insert hook into the bottom of the previous st, under 2 loops (into the face of the chain and under the nub at the back of the chain); repeat from * of first st.

  3. Repeat this step for number of sts indicated in instructions.

Quick! I need help! I don't understand step 7 at all and I need help. Can someone give me a hand?

I really like this sweater. I have crocheted for 41 years. Please rewrite this pattern it could be easier to read and time saving.

Quick! I need help! I don't understand step 7 at all and I need help. Can you give me a hand?

This is an excellent project. I love the longer vests and sweaters. Way back in the 70's when the tv show Maude was popular she wore them. She was a big person and they made her look so grim and classy. I started wear tunics like that. Time to go back to them.

I think this sweater is an older pattern. But you know what? It is totally right on trend with current fashions because of the much longer duster length and the pretty sort of lacy stitch pattern. I love the wide ribbed collar that goes all the way down to the bottom hem. It is somewhat of a challenge, and there are no additional pics to be had. Yikes. But pretty!

at what point would you shorten this? i am only 5ft tall and would like it just a bit shorter.

Hi! Great question. We recommend posting your question in our AllFreeCrochet Community Facebook group. I'm sure one of our talented readers can help you with this. Thank you!

It would be super if we could see the full completed item. A knee length that is only seen to the elbow in one picture?

Hello! I've updated the image so that it shows the jacket in its full glory! Enjoy.

I wish someone would rewrite all of Doris Chan's patterns, they are beautiful but a nightmare to follow the instructions. In the intro to one of her books she even admits to this issue... wish she would just fix it.

Intermediate skill level patterns one the first page make me a little learly. There are no pictures provided to help you along and sometime just a picture helps you determine what you may be doing wrong. I would like to consider myself able to complete an intermediate pattern but I think I will place this one on the back burner for now. The design is beautiful.

What is the abbreviation "BOB"?

Hi dino, BOB stands for bobble. If you scroll down to the bottom, past the pattern, you'll see a list of abbreviations used in this pattern. Thanks! Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

This is a cute barcello type jacket. I would love to make one for myself. It would definitely come in very handy when I eat at a chilly restaurant. Some of the businesses here keep the ac so cold all year round. This pattern comes in a variety of sizes. It looks like a challenging pattern, but I am up for the challenge.

The delicate design of this cardigan is breathtaking. I love the color but most of all I love the length of the Barcello Jacket. I also appreciate the inclusion of larger sizes to crochet this jacket. This piece would be a welcome addition to any woman's wardrobe. Thank you for the free pattern.

This is a beautiful pattern by Doris Chan I have several of her knitting design patterns. This one is among my collection.

Oh this is such a pretty little crochet piece. I think that it will make a stunning wardrobe addition in black or silver!

I love this pattern green isn't really my color I am making it in a charcoal gray and it is turning out awesome I do plan to lengthen the sleeves and maybe add a hood if you have any suggestions on how to add the hood without looking like it doesn't match the pattern or look pieced together I would appreciate and help please and thank you

What a beautiful pattern! I haven't had much luck trying to make a sweater for myself, but I'd love to try this one. I find long sweaters are great for the evenings. Green isn't exactly my color so I'm thinking a red or blue would work nicely. What color would you use?

Hi everyone I see that the link is now fixed! Please go and up load your free pattern. I can't wait to make this jacket, It looks lovely, now to go buy the soft yarn to make it.. Thank you for fixing the link problem..

Every time I tried to go to the page with the full pattern the internet stopped working....Can you please send me the pattern to my e-mail addi? susan19475129@att.net I really like the Barcello Jacket and would love to make it. Thank you sUSAn

I had absolutely no trouble getting into the pattern or the full length picture. Lovely.

The pattern indicated on the home page versus the pattern the link takes you to are not the same The link indicated that this was a stunning knee-length sweater but the link shows a green bolero Also I've had the same issue trying to find some patterns many times and wrote to your support contact us link but never received a response or acknowledgement Last week I went through virtually the entire Red Heart crochet patterns listing without any luck finding the sweater pattern I wanted I really do hope someone will take the time to fix this glitch in the near future And as some had stated it would be nice having to just click the link and go directly to the pattern instead of having to click on or more links to find a pattern I truly love your site and really appreciate the free patterns and they doRead More help inform us of new yarns threads and products available which is what I believe Lion Brand Red Heart are hoping to accomplish In fact many of the new yarns and threads presented by Red Heart and Lion Brand have had me to going out to Joann's and Michael's to purchase some of their new knitting and crochet products and your site definitely helps me learn of new products as they become available which I really do appreciate

I hit the instruction button 4x and just stood on the same page. I found out it doesn't go to another page, but downloaded to my tablet 4x. When you see the whole sweater it is long. Possibly knee length. Hope this helps...

I am having the same issue, and sometimes it just takes you to the home page like with lacy feminine stockings.

http://www.yarnspirations.com/naturallycaron-files/projects/barcello/barcello.pdf this will take you to the pattern.

I have a very hard time with this site. I don't see why you can't just print the pattern after you have logged-in. I am going to Caron Yarn site and see if they have the pattern.

Where is the pattern? As with above, the link takes me to Bernat knitting patterns page.

Can't find the pattern (Barcello Jacket)on sites: naturally caron, all free crochet, pintrest. Lead me to the pattern. B.T.

luv the site. will check back for this pattern once you have a chance to fix the glitch.

I see every one is giving you a hard time for "giving us something for free" and it does not work as expected... I can see the pictures once I close the pop up that comes up. I can not find the pattern and would love to use it... I will keep looking as I know that you will fix the glitch as soon as you can. Thank you for all you do for us in giving the free patterns...in hopes that some will buy something. Sherry Poole

FIX THIS !!!!!B WE WATCH YOUR ADS SO THAT THIS REMAINS A FREE SITE SO GIVE US THE ABILITY TO SEE THE PATTERNS WE WANT

Your site of All Free Patterns and Hooked on Crochet needs to be fixed. Just get cloudy pics of all patterns . ONly thing that is clear is ad for Spinspirations!!!! I see that I am not the only one having probles w/your sites. Your rating is POOR for this effort. KBT

when I click on get pattern, it sends me to knitting projects.

SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE FIX THIS

Where is the pattern??!! Would love to do this for my daughter

They must have taken the pattern down because I can't find it on the site. Very annoying.

can't get to pattern, click on it and i go to "yarnspirations" and they don't have a pattern that looks anything like this sweater...really wanted to get the pattern, it's looks beautiful!!!!

Pattern Barcellow Jacket will not download at all. All patters come up cloudy, except the Yarnspirations ad. What shall I do to print out Barcello jacke from natrualllycaron.com Tried at least 8 times. B.T.

Can't download. Get fuzzy, white images of all patterns.

Although I'm logged in, the Barcello Jacket pattern says I am not and will not open. Help!

I opened the pattern and loved it I'm 5' 11" and love long sweaters. Although I am going to use a heavier yarn. I printed out. Looks like a road trip in my near future lol thanks so much

me too

This actually IS a knee-length sweater. I'm not sure how you're not seeing that, it's in one of the photos on the pattern page itself...?

Would live to see the long sweater but I am having a problem the barcello jacket keeps coming up.

Open the pattern. This is the long sweater.

Nice but the Caron Spa yarn is going out. If you find it chances are you won't find a color you would use or enough of the same color. What are some substitues? I have a stack of free patterns for this yarn.

can't find a way to "print" this pattern and it's the wrong pattern anyway. somebody goofed.

I, too, wanted that long sweater...

I am person number 3, clicked on the knee lenght sweater and got the pattern for Barcello jacket. I really wanted to see the sweater.

Feels the same as wallikay 100. I was excited to find out what the sweater would look like. Instead, I find out that it's only that Barcello jacket. I like it and wanted to make it a while ago, but when I saw it was by Doris Chan, I changed my mind. Even though her patterns look beautiful, they are so complicated with instructions all over the place and the patterns do not even turn out the way they are supposed to: measurements are out of whack.

Ok having a problem here. I clicking on 'stunning knee length sweater' and instead got this jacket.
