  1. Start with a chain.


     
  2. Double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook.


     
  3. Skip the next stitch. Double crochet in the next stitch.


     
  4. From the back, make a double crochet in the skipped stitch.


     
  5. One cross stitch completed.


     
  6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 across the row.

     
     
  7. One row of cross stitch completed.


     
  8. Two rows of cross stitch completed.

Wow, I love this How to Make a Cross Stitch tutorial. It looks so easy to do and the pictures make it great! I made a cowl using the Cross Stitch, but my crosses were in front not from the back, but it still looks great. Now that I know the right way to make the stitch, it will look better. I want to make the man's scarf with the pattern above, it looks so unique I have to do it. Thank you so much for this free crochet tutorial.

I really like this stich but how do I decrease to finish the hat?
