This pattern seems a little funky to me. I have seen many comments about messy bun hats using an elastic band at the top, but I have never made one that way. I wonder if I could make this without the elastic band. I may give it a try and see what happens.

This project is a little fiddly in that its worked in sections. The body of the hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, and I love the waffle cone texture on the body. The designer uses an unusual way to enclose the elastic band to create the opening for the hat. New yarn is then attached at the bottom so the brim can be worked in place.
