Crochet Star Stitch Tutorial:

  1. To make the first Star Stitch of the round - Ch 2, draw up a loop in the second chain from the hook, draw up a loop in the back loop of the same stitch as your starting chain, draw up a loop in the back loop of each of the next two stitches (5 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all 5 loops, ch 1 to close the star (first Star Stitch made).

  2. To make the remaining star stitches of the round - Draw up a loop in the ch-1 space, draw up a loop in the same space that the previous star finished, draw up a loop in the back loop of each of the next two stitches (5 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all 5 loops, ch 1 to close the star.

  3. *IMPORTANT* - When you get to the end of the Round it will look like you are short one stitch, but this was done on purpose. If the last star was made the same way as the other stitches you would end up with a large gap in the seam. So you will make the last loop of the final Star Stitch in the join space of the previous round. Slip stitch in the top of the first Star Stitch to join. The next Round of HDC will be worked in the Ch-1 spaces only and will complete the Star Stitch.

Stitch and Button Tutorials:

  1. Star Stitch Decrease Tutorial: A star stitch decrease is made by working a hdc decrease over two ch-1 spaces. When you get to the specified ch-1 space, make 1 hdc as usual (A), yarn over and pull up a loop in the same space, yarn over and pull up a loop in the next ch-1 space(B), yarn over and pull through all loops on hook (C), make 1 hdc in the same ch-1 space as the decrease (D).

  2. Button Band PlacementLine up the end of the button band with the center of the thumb opening and use the tail to sew it to the glove. Secure the other end of the band by sewing the button through both layers of the band and glove. Allow a little slack for stretching the glove over the hand.

I have a soft place in my heart for the Star Stitch and was very happy to see it appear in these unusual fingerless gloves. I dont just think of Winter when I see these gloves because theyre an essential part of a proper ladies Steam Punk ensemble. Most gloves Ive seen are frilly, but this particular set looks very mechanical worked in grey, or leathery worked in a medium brown. Yummy!

Wow, these Crochet Star Stitch Fingerless Gloves look so sweet, I have to have a pair or two! I wear fingerless gloves all the time no matter what time of year it is. I have this problem with my wrist and arms that I have to wear braces and I cover them with fingerless gloves. I love this pattern and the stitches look so beautiful, I have to have more then one color to wear. I like that there are written patterns for child and adult sizes right here on this page. The pattern is easy to understand and the pictures for the star stitch help make it easier. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern.

I can never have enough fingerless gloves in the winter and it is great that they are so quick and easy to make. There are always a few pairs in my car for chilly days plus some in my desk drawer and I just love this star stitch pattern so I guess this is another pattern to add to my things to crochet for winter list.
