Using Lion Brand's beautiful Gold Leaf yarn in a black and gold color will give you an amazing outcome when you follow the Gold Leaf Capelet pattern. This is an easy crochet pattern created for children sizes small, medium and large (two to 12 years old). Double crochet and foundation double crochet stitches are used to work up this fun piece. Because the sparkle of the yarn makes this look like a nicer crochet pattern she can wear it for special occasions or Sunday church.

Foundation chain – 8sts = 5”
1 pattern repeat and 4 rows = 5”

 

STITCH GUIDE

ch(s) - chain(s), dc - double crochet, st(s) - stitch(es),  sl st – slip stitch,

 

SPECIAL STITCHES 

fdc- foundation double crochet 

Chain 4 (counts as the first fdc). Yarn over and insert hook in 4th chain from hook. *Yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 1 loop creating a chain st, (this is an important step but easy to forget). Yarn over again and pull through first two loops on hook (two loops remaining). Yarn over again and pull through last two loops on hook. This completes the second fdc (remember your  ch4 counted as the first fdc). To stitch the next fdc, yarn over and insert the hook into the chain made in the 2nd fdc and repeat from *

 

NOTES

Ch3 is considered the first dc of each row

 

PATTERN

Row 1:  Fdc 29 (33, 37) 

Row 2:  Ch3.  Turn.  1dc in the first st.  1dc in each of the next 21 (25, 29) sts.  2dc in the next st. <25 (29, 33)>

Row 3:  Ch3.  Turn.  [1dc. Ch2. 2dc] in the first st.  *Skip 3 sts.  Ch1.  [2dc. Ch2. 2dc] in the next st.  Repeat from * to end.  <7 (8, 9) shells>

Row 4:  Turn.  Sl st into each of the next 2dcs and then into the first Ch2 sp.  [Ch3. 1dc. Ch2. 2dc] in the same Ch2 sp.  *Ch1.  1dc in the next Ch1 sp (between shells).  Ch1.  [2dc. Ch2. 2dc] in the next Ch2 sp.  Repeat from * to end.  <7 (8, 9) shells and 6 (7, 8) dcs)>

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Lay capelet flat with “tab”  on the left. 

Attach button to the 3rd dc in from the right
