Sweet Lil Peas

Volunteer for a great cause with Sweet Lil Peas. Sweet Lil' Peas, is a 100% non profit, private charity based in Atlanta Georgia, which provides handmade items to the Grady Memorial Hospital NICU's premature infants. I started this charity group in April 2012, in honor of my 27 year old son, Kevin Noel, who was born at 35 weeks, weighing 3 pounds and 3.5 ounces and my son Christopher Brandon, who was a premature and stillborn in August 1994. It started out with just myself, however I do have a small group now. I put up a page on FB and then I started to get requests from people who wanted to have our hats for their NICU from various parts of the country.

After discussion with my family, they encouraged me to move forward and take this from just a part time hobby, to a full time non-profit organization, in order to fulfill the requests I am recieving. My initial target facility, is Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta Ga, which serves the low income community and my goal is 500 hats by 8/1/2012.

We have met our quoto, since the ladies have joined me in my quest to bring a smile to the families who are undergoing the fears and stresses of birthing a premature infant(s). So the good decided to allow me to divide up the overage equally to be distributed to NICIs in Texas, New York and North Carolina.

My website is new and I am busy dividing myself up to actually producing hats, soliciting volunteers and moving towards becoming a non-profit organization. As of August 2012, we will expand from making premie hats to making bereavement gown/hat sets and blankets. I will be working on patterns to post for those who do not have their own. I also provide links to online tutorials for those who wish to learn to crochet, knit and plan on producing some tutorials myself soon.

From 2007 to 2010, I made teddy bears for foster children coming into the system for the first time in Arizona for the Ameripsych Foster Agency. I have been a foster mother for children from newborns to 17 years of age. I have retired from that and have chosen this cause as the main focus in my life. I am 49 years old, in August and have been crocheting since I was 6 years old and knitting since I was 30 years of age.
