How to Single Crochet Video Tutorial

It can be difficult to learn how to crochet on your own, but we're here to help with this tutorial on How to Single Crochet. Follow along with this quick video to see the movements, which will help you learn and master it fast. This single crochet tutorial will go through every step of how to do the single crochet stitch, which is the most essential stitch to learn in crochet.

You'll be amazed by what a simple video can teach you, and you'll be thrilled with your success with crochet after you master the basic stitches. You can be a beginner or even someone coming back to crochet that needs to refresh his or her memory. If you'd like to go at your own pace, check out the written instructions and pictures below.

Once you master this stitch, it's time to learn either the half double crochet stitch or the double crochet stitch. Check out our videos for each of these and go from there to more advanced stitches, like the triple crochet stitch.

Materials List

  • Crochet hook of choice
  • Yarn of choice

How to Single Crochet:

  1. Insert your hook into center of your next working chain. Grab yarn (known as a yarn over) and draw through the chain stitch and up onto the hook so that you have two loops on your hook.

  2. Using your hook, grab yarn and draw it through both loops on your hook, leaving just one loop on your hook. You've made one single crochet stitch.

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as many times as your pattern calls for.

I am having difficultly crocheting my dish cloth and getting the edges to be even all the way thru the project. Any suggestions? Also please start from the very beginning in making a chain and then turning the piece.....all done in a single crochet. Thank you!

Thank you. Very well explained easy to follow for a total beginner which I am. I seem to be stuck though on what to do at the end/beginning of rows. Mine are not too often straight edged. Thank you.

A great video tutorial for a beginner crocheter or for someone that wants to learn to crochet. This is so well done that those that are still on the fence about learning to crochet should definitely want to pursue it now. It is explained so well and the video is clear and easy to see the steps.
