Love this poncho!! Can it be made without the slit? And how would I do that?

I so need this Montana Poncho, I don't live in Montana but Michigan and we do get cold. Sometimes I just don't want a heavy coat and this poncho with the turtleneck is just what I want.. After reading the written pattern I think it should turn out nicely. I'm just not sold on the colors yet. There are a few charts to show the stitch pattern and are helpful. Looking forward to making and wearing this one. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet poncho pattern.

This is the next thing I would like to make for myself for the eventual upcoming cooler weather. There are many different color combinations I can think of in addition to the gray and navy, and each of them can hang in my closet! Gray and red, classic. Gray and teal, modern and fresh!
