"This cowl is fast and easy -- certainly could be made by a beginning crocheter -- you only need to know half double crochet and chains. Made with a bulky weight yarn it works up very fast.  Worked in the back loops only there is some great texture to this cowl. The flower button is easy and oh so cute! Adjust the size as needed by working fewer or additional rows. The cowl is seamed together once desired size is achieved."

This is so cute! Ive seen the new Caron Chunky cakes but havent picked any up yet. I did look at them to compare yardage with the regular cakes. As I suspected, it was substantially less. Still, this project only takes one cake so its still a reasonable cost, especially with a 50 percent off coupon! And dont you just love that Chain Flower?

So this generously wide-mouthed cowl is made up of the half-double (or is it double?) crochets into the back loop only, throughout the entire piece. It is really very easy and gives a nice effect when finished. Personally, I am not on board with the flower at all. But that is only my personal opinion. I would not add the flower. I think, for me, it makes it a little too cutesy, and I think the overall general look of this cowl is more sophisticated.

It is cutesy but you may be right about the flower. This is one of the patterns I emailed to a granddaughter, and while she is a girly girl, I will leave the flower part up to her.
