This is different. This is made with two pieces joined. The special stitches used are front and back post double treble and that is what gives the light and airy open weave design. Perfect for fall and can be worn indoors during the colder months of winter.

Nice poncho. Check yarn labels and choose a worsted weight with more wraps per inch, check your gauge, then when you get your starting chain, measure it and make sure it is 50". This should prevent the mentioned problems in these comments. You might also decide on a sports weight (3) and you'd also have to check gauge/chain length. Good way to learn FP and BP stitches and it also it mentions using the chainless starting double crochet stitch. Once you master that, you'll use it in other projects.

Beautiful pattern. But, using #4 weight yarn and J-hook made a 60" panel -- much too large and heavy to wear. I ended up making it a blanket. Doing this pattern again using #3 light weight yarn and G-hook. Measurements coming out perfectly now for a comfortable weight adult poncho.

That happened to me once before. I picked a hooded poncho/cape hybrid that called for a (5) bulky weight yarn and a "J" hook. By the time I was finished that thing was a brick. We have to be careful and knowledgeable when choosing our projects! In the end I never used it. It was too much for me to take apart so I trashed it -( I am taking your suggestion with confidence!

Love this adult poncho which I can also make in a child's size. I can also make this in a different color. Here's the link to the pattern http//www.mooglyblog.com/perfect-fall-poncho/.
