Pet Blankets

Pet Blankets
Pet Blankets

"These pet blankets can be crocheted in small, medium and large sizes. They are super soft using Yarnspirations Bernat Blanket or Bernat Baby Blanket yarn. I crochet these for my local vet who uses them in each kennel and a local rescue that sends each rescue home with a blanket. They work up quickly with double crochet, even the large one can be completed in one day. And all the animals, dogs or cats, love them."

NotesSuch a fun project that helps our furry friends.

Easy

Crochet HookM/13 or 9 mm hook

Yarn Weight(6) Super Bulky/Super Chunky (4-11 stitches for 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge9 double crochet equals 4 inches

Finished Sizesmall measures 26 x 19; medium is 26 x 38; large is 36 x 56

Materials List

  • Yarnspirations Bernat Blanket yarn or Yarnspirations Bernat Baby Blanket yarn. [NOT the Bernat Blanket EXTRA!]

    • 10.5 oz / 300 g skein (or two 150 g skeins) for the small blanket

    • Using two 300 g skeins makes a longer blanket for medium size dogs.

    • Using four 300 g skeins makes a larger blanket for the larger dogs. BUT for the large blanket, chain 111 so that you have 110 double crochet across.

  • Size M (9.00 MM) crochet hook
  • Large eye tapestry needle

Instructions

Leave a 6 inch tail when you start to chain to weave in later.

Small Blanket

  1. Chain 56

  2. Row 1: Double crochet in the third chain from the hook. The two chains skipped will count as a double crochet.

Double crochet in each chain across. You will have 55 double crochet, including the two chains skipped at the beginning.

Chain two and turn. This chain two counts as the first double crochet in each row.

  3. Row 2: Double crochet in each double crochet across and double crochet in the chain at the end of the row. Again, 55 double crochet stitches.

  4. Chain two and turn and double crochet across for each row until you have used up the full skein.

  5. Fasten off and leave a 6 inch tail for weaving in.

  6. Thread the tail in the needle and weave under the stitches for about 2 inches. Then reverse the weave to ensure that it won’t unravel.

Do the same for the beginning tail.

Medium Blanket

Follow instructions for small blanket and simply continue on until you have used up both 300 g skeins.

Large Blanket

  1. Chain 111

  2. Row 1: Double crochet in the third chain from the hook. The two chains skipped will count as a double crochet.

Double crochet in each chain across. You will have 110 double crochet, including the two chains skipped at the beginning.

Chain two and turn. This chain two counts as the first double crochet in each row.

  3. Row 2: Double crochet in each double crochet across and double crochet in the chain at the end of the row. Again, 110 double crochet stitches.

  4. Chain two and turn and double crochet across for each row. Continue until you have used up all four skeins.

  5. Fasten off and leave a 6 inch tail for weaving in.

  6. Thread the tail in the needle and weave under the stitches for about 2 inches. Then reverse the weave to ensure that it won’t unravel.

Do the same for the beginning tail.
