Mary Poppins Inspired Magic Crochet Bag

If you're wondering where Mary Poppins got her magic bag, this free purse pattern is the answer. The Mary Poppins Inspired Magic Crochet Bag harnesses the magic of T-shirt yarn combined with mesh styling to allow the bag to stretch out to accommodate a smorgasbord of items for those days when you can't get to the car without packing half your house with you.

When you only have a few essentials, though, it still stays cute and perky. The single flower at the bottom gives the whole piece a fresh, vibrant pop, and the color combinations are limitless. This is also one of the best beginner crochet patterns because it only uses two stitches: chain and single.

NotesBecause of the nature of t-shirt yarn, it is impossible to tell you how many t-shirts you would need to cut up with any degree of accuracy. Not only are t shirts all different sizes, but they don’t all stretch equally! Helpful hint: Use t-shirts made from the same thickness and type of fabric. You can also buy T-shirt yarn if you don't want to make it.

I guess this is Mary Poppins inspired because of the little flower. Mary Poppins bag was definitely not these beautiful vibrant colors. At any rate, I love this bag. It is the perfect market bag because of the open weave design.

Two projects in one. I love it. I have seen the links that show how to make your own tee shirt yarn. Right now, for me it would not be practical but it is nice to know that if I do ever accumulate a lot of tee shirts I can recycle them into yarn. For now, I will go out and purchase the tee shirt yarn for this pattern.

I would most likely take that cheaters way out and just buy the tee shirt yarn instead of making it! Nothing wrong with that! I am sure loving those really bright colors. I could do without the flowers, but just my personal preference. These are a great bag to sell! The farmer's market season is upon us.

These are the cutest bags. I don't remember what Mary Poppins bag looked like but I do like the look of these and they seem very easy to make. I make and sell crochet purses on line. And these will be a nice addition to my collection. Thank you for sharing.

Excellent pattern for beginners. I personally dont recommend using tshirt yarn as the designer did with her bags. I recommend just using regular Sugar N Cream cotton yarns and save yourself some time and money. They will look just as good as the ones in the pictures and have a lot of colors to pick from.

What a super cute bag! And now that it's spring, well almost summer, there are lots of farmer's markets going on. Also, in parts of the country there are areas that don't provide grocery bags anymore and you have to bring your own. What a great way to do that and be a multi-use bag!

I agree with Mulberrygalprincess. Just when I think I'm safe, I find another wonderful pattern! But, since I sprained my ankle, and can't walk on it right now, I get to do more crocheting! Yeah for me!

Oh greAt. I spent most of yesterday looking thru your patterns and promised myself I would not do it again today. I have house work to do. Then I open up this, just to see if there is anything new and I am caught. What an easy, fast pattern. I have so many friends who refuse plastic grocery bags. These will make great gifts for them. Thank you for shAring, I think! Lol

Yes,Europeans use those "open-knit"grocery bags, cause "NO-PLASTIC-BAGS!"--VERY PRACTICAL.jUST MAKE THIS ONE larger OR LONGER,OUT of a sturdy rope-like yarn or cord, and you have a real market bag.--or, just knit yarm(I'd hate to get it dirty.)--I really am glad all this sewing-patterns,and purse-patterns,crocheting, is available to us.Its a real gift, thank you!!
