The optional gold border adds a decorative touch to the crocheted American flag and, again, you can make the border in any other color if you prefer. It allows for lots of personal touches, which makes this design even more special when giving it as a gift.

I am making this flag and have a couple questions. I am working on the boarder. I am 2/3 of the way done. I just read the directions for row 4 of the boarder. I assumed that row 3 was front post dc if so does that mean that row 4 sc are behind row 3? I am a little confused and hope I do not have to rip out row 3. Please help.

TREASURESINKY 5654 145, you are correct that row 3 uses front post double crochet. The row 4 sc stitches are made in the top of each stitch from the previous row. We hope this helps! - Editors of AllFreeCrochet

Wow. How patriotic!. This crocheter is a hero. For me there's really no reason to crochet an American flag except for the spirit of patriotism burning in every American. This is really a labor of love of country.

Wow, finely an American Flag Blanket pattern that works! I really like her double-decker star appliqus. They look more like starts than any I have seen before. I also like that she used the Bernat blanket yarn, that is so soft and makes a thick warm blanket! I saved this one and will be making it as written. I may have to make two, one for me and one for my brother who was born on Labor Day. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet American Flag Blanket pattern.

Ive seen other American flag afghans and blankets, but the most brilliant contribution by this designer is the suggestion about using her Double Decker Stars instead of the usual star appliqu. She provides a link to her technique, and even if you never make this blanket project, youll probably use stars! Even though she uses small stars for this example, it would definitely work for larger, even stand alone stars like ornaments.

My mother would go gag over this! Bernat Blanket yarn was created for projects exactly like this. Once you use it, you most likely will never go back to another yarn when making your blankets. I wonder what it looks like from the back side? I would say take care with your color changes and completely and carefully weave in those ends. Great to display on the back of your sectional!
