Sturdy Numbered Die with Foam Block
"This Sturdy Numbered Die with foam block can be made in under 60 minutes and can be used right away to either teach your children numbers or play games with them. It is a perfect beginner project that uses only single crochet and surface crochet. The foam block is usually used for flower pots, but can be switch out with polyfill or an old t-shirt in case you want the die to be used by babies."
Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

This is a fun project and so versatile, too! You could work the blocks all in one color or mixed colors. Tamara at Moogly Blog has patterns for the best letters and numbers Ive seen. For very small children, it would be fun to put an animal face on each side instead. Dont forget about making the classic die with black dots, too. If you explore this designers page, there are all sorts of cute ideas.

This is a great idea. When you have four grand kids under the age of 6 and you babysit them frequently, you need two or three things. Patience, something to keep them busy and something Unbreakable. It looks like you have supplied the last two ingredients so I just need the first one.
