The pattern is rugged and manly enough that he won't feel like he's wearing a frilly accessory and will want the extra fluff around his neck to keep warm. Crochet HookM/13 or 9 mm hook

Yarn Weight(5) Bulky/Chunky (12-15 stitches for 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge7 sc and 8 rows = 4" [10 cm].

Finished SizeApprox 6" x 75" [15 cm x 190.5 cm].

Materials List

  • Bernat Softee Chunky Version 1: 28044 (True Grey) 3 balls or Version 2: 29044 (Dads Scarf) 3 balls
  • Size 9 mm (U.S. M or 13) crochet hook


Scarf is worked lengthwise


Ch 133. Mark every 30th ch for easier counting. 1st row: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each ch across. Turn. 131 hdc. 2nd row: Ch 2 (does not count as hdc). *Work 1 hdc in horizontal bar created between stitches of previous row (bar is below loops normally worked). Rep from * across. Turn. 131 hdc. Rep 2nd row until Scarf measures 6" [15 cm]. Fasten off.
