Raspberry Swirl Crochet Scarf

Using two beautiful pink shades of Red Heart Super Saver you can work up this fabulous Raspberry Swirl Crochet Scarf. Not only is it an easy crochet pattern, but this type of crochet scarf can be worn during any season of the year. The open shell stitch and picot crochet stitch are used to get the look of this design. Not liking the pink color? No problem; that's why you get to choose your own colors and make the crochet scarf unique to your own taste.

Easy

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • RED HEART Super Saver (364 yds/skein):  220 yds. each 0774 Light Raspberry, 0373 Petal Pink
  • Crochet Hook: 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

 

Gauge: 6 rows – 3 ¾”              

              Open Shell, picot – 2”

 

Special Stitches:  Open Shell – (dc, [ch 1, dc] twice) in space or stitch as indicated.    

                              Foundation picot – sc in next ch, ch 3, sc in next ch.

                               Picot – (sc, ch 3, sc) in space or stitch as indicated

 

Scarf Measures:   8” x 60”      


Instructions:      

Row 1 (RS): With raspberry ch 29, sc in 2nd ch from hook, skip 2 chs, open shell in next ch, [skip 2 chs, foundation picot , skip 2 chs, open shell in next ch] across to last 3 chs, skip 2 chs, sc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 7, *picot in center dc of open shell, ch 3**, dc in ch space of foundation picot, ch 3, repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, tr in last stitch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, [open shell in ch space of picot, picot in next dc] across ending with open shell in ch space of last picot, sc in last stitch, turn.

Row 4: Ch 7, *picot in center dc of open shell, ch 3**, dc in ch space of picot, ch 3, repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, tr in last stitch, turn,

Row 5: Repeat Row 3, fasten off and turn.

Row 6: Join pink in first stitch and continue with Row 4, fasten off and turn.

Row 7: Join raspberry in first stitch and continue with Row 3, fasten off and turn.

Row 8: Join pink in first stitch and continue with Row 4, fasten off and turn.

Row 9: Join raspberry in first stitch and continue with Row 3, turn.

Row 10: Join pink in first stitch and continue with Row 4, fasten off and turn.

Row 11: Join raspberry in first stitch and continue with Row 3, turn.

Row 12: Repeat Row 4, turn.

Row 13: Repeat Row 3, turn.

Row 14: Repeat Row 4, turn.

Row 15: Repeat Row 3, fasten off and turn.

Row 16: Join pink in first stitch and continue with Row 4. turn.

Rows 17-22: Repeat Rows 3 and 4, fasten off after last row and turn.

Color Scheme

 

Continue pattern repeating Rows 11 – 22 five more times.

 

Next Row join raspberry in first stitch and continue with Rows 11-15 one time.

Repeat swirl pattern Rows 6-10 one time.

Next Row join raspberry in first stitch and continue with Rows 11-15 one time and Do Not Fasten

Off after last row, turn.

 

EDGING

With raspberry and wrong side facing work along top edge picot in first stitch, *picot in center dc of open shell, picot in ch 3 space of picot, repeat from * across ending picot in last stitch and fasten off.  (9 picots)

With raspberry and wrong side facing work along bottom edge picot in first stitch, *picot in ch below open shell, picot in ch below foundation picot, repeat from * across ending picot in last stitch and fasten off.  (9 picots)

The interesting combination of Open Shells, Foundation Picot and regular Picot give this scarf a really nice texture. Even though there arent any photos with this project, I didnt have any problems following the written instructions. I already had some yarn in these colors, but I chose to use an I size hook instead of the H. The slight increase in size made it even more light and airy.
