This Manly Weave Scarf is definitely worth the 4 balls of yarn it takes to work it up. What's better is that you use a basketweave stitch, creating a fun design that doesn't look too girly. Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge13 sc and 15 rows = 4" [10 cm].

Finished SizeApprox 8" x 60" [20.5 x 152 cm].

  • Sheep(ish) by Vickie Howell: Main Color (MC) Gun Metal(ish) (00002), 3 balls and Contrast A Grey(ish) (00003), 1 ball
  • Size 6 mm (U.S. J/10) crochet hook

Notes

Note: To join new color, work to last 2 loops on hook. Draw new color through last 2 loops then proceed in new color. Ch 2 at beg of row counts as st.

Scarf

With A, ch 27. 1st row: (RS) 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end of chain. Turn. 26 sc. **2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Join MC. Do not break A. Turn. 3rd row: Holding MC at back of work, with A, ch 1. Bring MC to front of work. *With A, 1 sc in first sc. Bring MC to back of work. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row, yoh with both MC and A and draw through last 2 loops. Break MC. Turn. 4th to 6th rows: With A, ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Join MC at end of 6th row. Break A.*** Next row: (RS). With MC, ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Proceed in Basket Weave Pat as follows: 1st row: (WS). Ch 2. *1 dcfp around each of next 4 sts. 1 dcbp around each of next 4 sts. Rep from * twice more. 1 dc in top of turning ch. Turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Ch 2. *1 dcfp around each of next 4 sts. 1 dcbp around each of next 4 sts. Rep from * twice more. 1 dc in top of turning ch. Turn. 4th to 6th rows: Ch 2. *1 dcbp around each of next 4 sts. 1 dcfp around each of next 4 sts. Rep from * twice more. 1 dc in top of turning ch. Turn. These 6 rows form Basket Weave Pat. Rep last 6 rows 3 times more, joining A at end of last row. Break MC.** Rep from ** to ** 5 times more, then rep from ** to *** once. Fasten off.
