Techniques

  1. Changing yarn colors: If you are not comfortable carrying your working yarn between Rounds, you can fasten off after each Zigzag Round and join your new color between the starting chain and the post of the first DC.

To carry your working yarn, change colors when you slip stitch to join at the end of the Round: Insert your hook in the top of the starting chain, yarn over with Color B and pull through all loops on the hook.  Leave Color A hanging inside the hat and continue working around. When you get to the end, repeat these steps to change back to Color A.

  2. Instructions for the Final Round of SC after finishing the Visor: Slip stitch in the same space as the last stitch in Row 3 of the visor instructions.
Sc in the end of the next two rows and continue working around the hat making 1 sc in each stitch. When you return to the visor, make 1 sc in the end of each row and in each hdc across the front of the visor back to where you started.

Make an invisible join by weaving the yarn tail under the 2nd stitch to the left and back through the middle of the last stitch (see images below). Gently tighten the tail so it resembles the other stitches. Weave in your ends.

So cute. I am so happy to be finding all of these patterns for little girls. I am thrilled that this pattern adapts so well and can be made for any member of the family. This will be great for our next family reunion to go with the matching tee shirts we all wear. Thanks for this.
