Sugar Plum Dreams Elf Hat

"This precious newborn elf hat crochet pattern is the epitome of understated elegance and baby sweetness. Your little "Sugar Plum" will stay cute and cozy for Christmas wearing this soft, knit-look, but entirely crocheted baby hat! If you've never crocheted the knit-stitch, also referred to as "center single crochet", or the "crochet waistcoat stitch", have no fear! It is easy to pick up provided you keep your tension loose. I've included a tutorial video in the "Special Stitches" section of the post that shows how this stitch is worked. This pattern is easily adjusted for larger head sizes."

NotesAdditional sizing notes are included later on in the pattern to help you make this hat larger, should you wish to.

I agree with a previous poster. What is the obsession with wanting crochet to look like knit? If I wanted that I would just knit it. I like the crochet patterns. That's why I do it. I learned to knit first and then I found how much faster I could crochet!

It's amazing to me that this is a crochet pattern with the closely woven texture. The baby of our family is about to turn three so I would want to adjust the pattern to fit her. She would look so cute wearing this style. Plus, it would keep her warm during play outside during the winter. It would be cute in variegated or solid colors. What would you choose?

One look at the supplied photo above, and I thought are you sure this is crochet??? Because it definitely looks like a knit project. Mystery solved as the designer reveals she is using the Knit or Waistcoat Stitch, and provides a video of another of her projects that uses this same stitch. I love that braided tasselI might need to make a version of this hat for myself.

There is this fascination with crocheters who are trying to figure out ways to make their crochet hats look like they were knit. I do not understand that, but okay! The hat looks cool. I prefer that braided tail. Hey! Maybe I can fool my friends into thinking that i finally decided to pick up a pair of knitting needles and learn how to knit for myself!

I remember exactly where I was when I first learned to knit--sitting in a mulberry tree, eight years old, and my neighbor Rita was instructing me. I never progressed much past knit one, purl two, but I admire those who can whiz through with the needles.
