This is so cute, and even if you cant get your older family members to wear one, it would be great for an actual scarecrow. Every year our rec center has a scarecrow contest, and this would make the perfect topper for mine. Because its going to be outside, Im actually going to work up the hat using plarn repurposed from tan Kroger bags.

You know, when my son was a little boy in the 2nd grade I made a homemade Halloween costume for him. He was a scarecrow. This scarecrow hat has a Wizard of Oz feel to it, unlike the hat I made for my son which was a straw some-type-of-cowboy-hat. And adult could rock with this one, stuffing straw up under the brim. Probably hot gluing it to be sure it stays in place. You can hot glue onto yarn, can't you? What a neat idea!
