Notes

Hat is worked in a spiral. Do not join unless otherwise indicated. Neckband is worked in rows and joined as you go to Hat on odd rows except where indicated. Special Techniques Adjustable ring method Holding the yarn a few inches from the end, wrap around your finger. Do not remove wrap from finger, insert hook into the wrap and draw up a loop of working yarn. Chain one to secure the loop, and remove ring from finger. Work stitches of first round in the ring. Pull gently, but firmly, on tail to tighten ring.

Dog Hat

With A, make adjustable ring. Round 1: 6 sc in ring; pull tight to close; place marker at beginning of round. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around 12 sts. Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 6 times 18 sts. Round 4: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sc] 6 times 24 sts. Round 5: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sc] 6 times 30 sts. Round 6: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sc] 6 times 36 sts. Round 7: Sc in each st around. Round 8: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sc] 6 times 42 sts. Round 9: Sc in each st around. Round 10: To create Earholes, ch 1, turn, sc in next 14 sc; ch 1, turn, sc in next 14 sc; ch 1, turn, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc] twice, slip st down side of last 2 rows; slip st in next 7 sc, sc in next 14 sc; ch 1, turn, sc in next 14 sc; ch 1, turn , [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc] twice, ch 8, skip next 7 sc, sc in next 16 sc, ch 8, skip next 7 sc, sc in next 16 sc. Size Small Round 11: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 14 sc] 3 times 48 sts. Size Medium Round 11: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sc] 6 times 54 sts. All Sizes Rounds 12-14: Sc in each st around. Neckband Ch 11. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across, skip next sc on hat edge, slip st in next sc on hat edge, ch 1; turn 10 sc, 1 slip st. Row 2: Skip slip st, sc in back loop of each sc across, ch 1; turn. Row 3: Sc in back loop of each sc across, skip next sc on hat edge, slip st in next sc on hat edge, ch 1; turn. Rows 4-9: Repeat Row 2-3, 3 times. Rows 10-27 (30): Repeat Row 2, 18 (21) times. (Rows are not attached to hat face opening made). Row 28 (31): Sc in back loop of each sc across, skip next 18 (20) sc on hat edge, slip st in next sc on hat edge, ch 1; turn. Rows 29-38 (32-43) Repeat Rows 2-3, 10 (12) times. Row 39 (44) (Joining Row) Working through both thicknesses, slip st in each st across Rows 1 and 38 (43) to join. Fasten off. Dog Spats With A, ch 16. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across; ch 1, turn 15 sc. Row 2: Sc in back loop of each sc across. Rows 3-17 (21) Repeat Row 2, 15 (19) times. Row 18 (22) (Joining Row) Working through both thicknesses, slip st in each st across Rows 1 and 17 (21) to join. Round 19 (23): Rotate to work around edge of cuff, ch 1, work 20 sc evenly around edge 20 sts. Note: Begin working back and forth as follows to create paw covers: Row 20 (24): Work 3 sc in next st, skip next st, slip st in next st; turn. Row 21 (25): Work 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, skip next st, slip st in next st; turn. Row 22 (26): [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 3 times, skip next st, slip st in next st; turn. Claws (Make 3) With C, make adjustable ring. Round 1: Work 4 sc in ring; pull tight to close; place marker at beginning of round 4 sts. Round 2: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] twice 6 sts. Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts] twice 8 sts. Round 4: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] twice 10 sts. Fasten off. Do not fasten off last claw. Work 1 row of slip sts across open edge of claw, folding claw shut. Continue to work slip st across other 2 claws. Fasten off. Eye Back (Make 2) With A, make adjustable ring. Round 1: Work 6 sc in ring; pull tight to close; place marker at beginning of round 6 sts. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around 12 sts. Round 3: [Ch 8, skip next st, slip st in next st] 6 times 6 ch-8 sps. Round 4: 3 sc in each skipped st of Round 3 18 sts. Round 5: [Ch 8, skip next st, slip st in next st] 9 times 9 ch-8 spaces. Round 6: [3 sc in next skipped st, 2 sc in next skipped st, 3 sc in next skipped st] 3 times 24 sts. Round 7: [Ch 8, skip next st, slip st in next st] 12 times 12 ch-8 spaces. Round 8: [3 sc in next skipped st, 2 sc in next skipped st] 6 times 30 sts. Fasten off. Eye Front (Make 2) With A, make adjustable ring. Rounds 4-7: Repeat Rounds 5 - 8 of Eye Back. Fasten off. Eye Balls (Make 2) With B, make adjustable ring. Round 1: Work 6 sc in ring; pull tight to close; place marker at beginning of round 6 sts. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each around 12 sts. Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 6 times 18 sts. Slip st in next st. Fasten off. With C, make adjustable ring. Round 1: 6 sc in ring; pull tight to close; slip st in next st. Fasten off. Horn (Make 2) With D, make adjustable ring. Round 1: 5 sc in ring; pull tight to close; place marker at beginning of round 5 sc. Rounds 2-3: 2 sc in next st, sc in each remaining st around 7 sc. Round 3: Repeat Round 2, changing to E in last st 8 sc. Rounds 4-5: Repeat Round 2, changing to D in last st or Round 5 10 sc. Rounds 6-8: Repeat Round 2, changing to E in last st of Round 9 13 sc. Fasten off.

Finishing

Assembly Stuff Horns with Fiberfill. Using photo as a guide, position Horns on sides of Hat and sew in place. Sew black parts of eyeballs to white parts. Sew white parts to Eye Fronts. Sew Eye Fronts to Eye Backs - 1/4 of the way around. Place left and right Eyes together on top of Horns. Complete sewing Fronts to Backs between Eyes and left to right at centers. Continue attaching Eyes to Hat around bases of Eyes. Attach Claws to Spats. Weave in all ends.
