Notes and Special Stitches

Notes

  1. Ruana is made from 2 rectangular panels sewn together halfway up from bottom edge.
  2. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color. Do not cut color not in use; carry along wrong side until next needed.
Special Stitches

reverse sc (reverse single crochet) = Work single crochet in opposite direction from which you would usually work (left to right
if you are right-handed and right to left if you are left-handed). This stitch is also known as crab stitch. It creates a rope-like twisted single crochet edging.

Join with sc = Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

Ruana - Panels

Make 2

  2. Row 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across to last ch, sc in last ch; change to B, turn—121 sc and 119 ch-1 spaces

  3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * across, sc in last sc; change to C, turn.

  5. Row 4: Repeat Row 2; change to B at end of row.

  6. Rows 5–73: Repeat last 3 rows 23 times. Do not change to B at end of Row 73. Fasten off.

Finishing

  1. Place a stitch marker at center of top edge of each panel. With A, sew last rows together from first stitch to marked stitch to form back seam; leave remaining stitches unsewn.

  2. Edging Row: With right side of joined panels facing (back of piece) and working in ends of rows, join C with sc in last row, reverse sc in each row across. Fasten off.

  3. Repeat Edging Row in ends of rows of short front edge of each panel.

  4. Weave in ends.

This pattern is on Red Hearts website for free, with more detail.

This definitely doesnt look like it would be an easy pattern it has the look of a more advanced project with the texture of the stitching. This project is made up of two panels that are then stitched together at the end. I think some of my friends that live in the North and would make a great Christmas gift.

This is the perfect wrap to make and not hard at all. I am going to make it in a reflective yarn so in the evening I can be seen. I gets dark here at night since certain parts of the downtown area where I live do not have a lot of lighting. It does not get very cold here so this will be perfect in the evening. Thank you for the pattern.

This wrap is beautiful. It is definitely a wrap every women needs for those special nights out with her partner when It is just a little cool but not cool enough for a sweater or jacket.

When I read the directions for this wrap I had an idea. Because this is created with two separate panels I am considering making them in coordinating colors to have "two" wraps, depending on which side is facing front. Good idea, huh?

Ok. So a crochet pattern can not get much easier than this. Select your favorite yarn and grab that favorite crochet hood and before you know it, you will have this beautiful wrap. I love this.

I've been looking for a pattern like this. Thank you so much, I can't wait to get started

I never used to care too much for these types of projects, but now that the office air conditioner is running on pretty much full blast, I might have to break down and work this up. This looks so cozy and SO easy!

Love this ruana wrap which is the in accessory for fall. I would like to make several of this for my friends and family. Thanks for the free pattern which can be found right on this very page. Thanks
