Weekly Crochet Along

  1. How to Participate
It’s easy to take part in our Crochet Along! There will be four different steps, all linked below, that will be posted on AllFreeCrochet. All you need to do is simply visit the site on the dates below to get the next step of instructions.

  2. Week 1: November 7th - Click here to access part 1 tutorial

    1. Ruana is made from 2 rectangular panels sewn together halfway up from bottom edge.
    2. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color. Do not cut color not in use; carry along wrong side until next needed.

    Special Stitches:
    reverse sc (reverse single crochet)
= Work single crochet in opposite direction from which you would usually work (left to right if you are right-handed and right to left if you are left-handed). This stitch is also known as crab stitch. It creates a rope-like twisted single crochet edging.
Join with sc = Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

  3. Week 2: November 14th - Click here to access part 2 tutorial

    Ruana - Panels
    (Make 2)
    With A, ch 241.
Row 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across to last ch, sc in last ch; change to B, turn—121 sc and 119 ch-1 spaces
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * across, sc in last sc; change to C, turn.
Row 3: Repeat Row 2; change to A at end of row.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2; change to B at end of row.
Rows 5–73: Repeat last 3 rows 23 times. Do not change to B at end of Row 73. Fasten off.

  4. Week 3: November 21st - Click here to access part 3 tutorial

Using a tapestry needle, weave in your ends.

Seaming:Place a stitch marker at center of top edge of each panel. With A, sew last rows together from first stitch to marked stitch to form back seam; leave remaining stitches unsewn.

  5. Week 4: November 28th  - Click here to access part 4 tutorial

Edging Row: With right side of joined panels facing (back of piece) and working in ends of rows, join C with sc in last row, reverse sc in each row across. Fasten off.
Repeat Edging Row in ends of rows of short front edge of each panel. Weave in ends.

Crocheting along while recuperating from foot surgery. Love the pattern easy to follow

This looks perfect for wearing to church...a sneaky way to keep warm when they forget to heat the chapel.

This sounds like a fun project to try after Christmas!

Ordering the yarn for this exciting wrap. Hope it works ups quickly!

Very, very excited to get started on this project. Hopefully will finish in time for Christmas. Wish me luck.

Love the pattern and have really enjoyed the videos with Marly.

Love the tutorials. Makes it easier if you get stuck or interrupted

Love this pattern and love, love, love Red Heart! I'm going to start on this just as soon as I finish the project I'm currently working on...using Red Heart, of course!

Red heart yarn. -learned to knit using red heart many years ago. Continues to be my favourite go to yarn.

Fabulous project! So glad you made this available.

I am new at crochet and am eager to try this pattern. It's beautiful!!

This is the perfect thing to make with my crochet class at the library. I will make one for my grandmother's birthday in January!

I love this item, and I know that my granddaughter would absolutely love it if I made it for her!

Lovely gift project...if we hurry

I am really happy about this crochet along, although I am wondering about the space needed for this Ruana, LOL! I am so glad Red Heart has these neat new yarns. I used to only buy Red Heart if I wanted a "harsh" and "sturdy" yarn, and I realize how wrong I have been to have this opinion. Thank you so much Red Heart!!

excited, I've been looking for a shawl pattern

nice shawls, very easy to make, Red Heart Yarns are very easy to work. using Red Heart Yarns now to make a jacket and shawl.

beautiful....just found this today!! and signed up!! lovely shawl!

I was sooo bummed when I realized Inhad almost missed the Chrochet along altogether. Glad I checked in though, as I live the tutorials! Thanks Much

This looks like fun!

Thanks for the pattern

Looks like a fun project.

I like the Purple Serenity Shawl. Would love to make it.

Got a late start on this project. Love the feel and texture of these yarns but mine will be a spring finish as life is in the way. Sure hope your wonderful products will be around for a long time.

It looks like a lovely wrap! It would be nice if there were written instructions, too.

Love this pattern

I am learning to crochet and these are very nice tutorials and clear instructions. Thank you!

Would love. To try

I want to make one with those colors!

I can't wait to make this!

I love this CAL, it is so pretty.

I learn so much from your tutorials and videos. Thank you for providing them to us.

I can't wait to get started on this ruana for my weekly project!

This is so much fun and the pattern is gorgeous.

I love the look of this wrap, I'll have to do it at a later date though, I've got a lot going on at the moment

Haven't tried these patterns yet, especially excited about the nativity. Thank you.

Is anyone else having trouble with this yarn? The "Unforgettable" is so thin it has broken several times. The soft yarn becomes so tangled. Is it just me? Love the pattern but I don't know if It's worth the aggravation.

Looks like a really fun pattern!

I really like this design already have the unforgettable a green but I might switch it up!

Thank you for this tutorial and the "work along". You not only explain difficult areas in as much detail as you can, but the way you present and display, helps so very much. I can't wait to finish mine )

I cannot figure out how to download the pattern to print it out can you help me

You can either print the entire page, or you can copy and paste the section you need in a Word document. Then print the Word document. Hope that helps!

Love love the purple Ruana . I would love to win the black ,grey and lovely purple.

Really looking forward to trying this pattern!

What a coincidence, I started this project a week before these great tutorials! Now I know the best way to connect them! Thanks!

awesome love

Ruana. First time I saw this wrap, I liked it because it is oversized. It's similar to a poncho but this is even wider and longer. It's another type of scarf that is worth making, it will protect you from the cold, it is a fashion statement and it's one accessory any fashionista would like to have in her wardrobe.

This is such a terrific pattern and I have always loved Red Heart yarn. I have been knitting/crocheting for 60 years and RH never lets me down.

I recently bought some Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable yarn and I have been looking for a pattern that uses it this is the perfect project for it. I love ruanas and this one is really easy. Thanks!
