I think lizalu should have focused more on thanking you for the FREE pattern than defining sock monkey! Its quite obvious this pattern was given this name to help people, like yourself, who are searching for different patterns. By typing in key words like monkey, plush, soft, or, heaven forbid, sock, you are directed to this pattern. As you can plainly see, this pattern has put smiles on many face despite its name.

This is a very cute monkey, but it is not a sock monkey. Sock monkeys are made from socks. This one doesn't even qualify as a "Faux sock monkey" because it doesn't even look like the ones that are made from socks. You should really delete the "sock" part of your title. Thanks for the free pattern for this adorable "Soft Plush Monkey".

Wow I am so excited to see this pattern again. I made this same monkey in 1984 for my then 2yr old son, he is now 30, so his monkey which he still has is 28. I had lost the pattern during one of our many moves. I am now going to make this monkey for his son.

I love the monkey! I'm currently working on making one. I'm using a yarn that is mostly dark brown, but has a little bit of teal, it looks great! I'm hoping to make another monkey with a yarn I have that is mainly dark brown with a little bit of pink!
