Blocking

Spider Webs must be blocked and starched to achieve the desired effect. Soak the appliqués with commercial starch or fabric stiffener. Gently squeeze out any excess liquid. Place them on the pinning board. For a pinning board you can use a cork board, a sheet of Styrofoam, or a piece of pressed cardboard. Cover it with plastic wrap. Using rustproof pins, pin each Picot to shape. Allow to dry completely before removing your appliqués.

I love how the author has given two different variations for the same motif. This would be adorable on a Halloween beanie or toqueit just needs a sweet or scary spider to go along with it. Theyre not too big to be costume earrings either. This is a fun little project to work up in your spare time.
