This modern take on a placemat is neutral enough to fit just about any decorating scheme. If youve never worked the Grit Stitch before, youll be delighted at what a nice solid fabric this stitch makes. Besides this placement, this particular stitch is very useful for washcloths of all sorts. Its very simple to master, and one of those repetitive patterns you can easily work while watching TV or traveling. I commented on this a year ago. Right before I made it. I made a table runner using this stitch and it came out lovely. Then a friend saw it and wanted one. Then her sister wanted one and so on until I was knee deep in requests. I don't know whether to kiss or curse you!

This will be the prefect place mat for my little messy Marvin. My husband is forever making a mess on any eating surface. If I place this under his plate it just might encourage him to be a little more careful about not making a mess, ya think?? Naw! He's messy Marvin for a reason!

As a Grits girl, I must admit the name of this project interested me just off the back. I had never heard of the grits stitch and I have to admit, the design has a lot of texture, style, and interest. Currently, I am not in need of placemats, but I do know who would love to receive them as a gift. Thanks for the free pattern.

Here is a very modern and contemporary placemat look for your kitchen table. How to do the crab stitch is explained in her pattern directions, so you don't have to worry if you have never done it before. It turns out pretty cool! A set of four of these placemats make a nice gift, that is for sure.

This is very new to me. I have been crocheting for 50 yeArs and never heard of the grit stitch. But after reading thru the instructions it seems familiar to me. And I want to make it. I would like to make a table runner with it. Thank you for sharing this.

I am unfamiliar with the grit stitch? The placemat pattern is located at http//crochetncreate.com/grit-stitch-placemat/ . It is a very customizable friendly pattern that lets you use the colors you want to match the color scheme of your dining room. These mats are also great to use for other things such as to put your laptop and or larger items on the protect furniture.
