Choose any one of these adorable holiday crochet patterns to use this fall. The Trio of Halloween Cozies includes the cutest monsters and ghouls you've ever seen. Let the Jack-o-Lantern, Frankenstein, or Ghostie keep your coffee warm and your fingers protected as you hand out Halloween candy. They are all so cute, you won't be able to pick just one. Work up all of them as decorations on your candy table and so everyone in the family can have one for themselves.

Easy

Crochet HookG/6 or 4 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS:

FOR JACK-O-LANTERN

  • RED HEART® Soft®: 1 ball 4422 Tangerine A, small amount 4614 Black B and 4601 Off White C.

FOR FRANKENSTEIN

  • RED HEART® Soft®: 1 ball 9522 Leaf D, small amount 4614 Black B, 9925 Really Red E and 4601 Off  White C.

FOR GHOSTIE

  • RED HEART® Soft®: 1 ball 4601 Off White C and small amount 4614 Black B.

FOR ALL

  • Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 4mm [US G-6]
  • Yarn needle.

 

SIZE: Cozy stretches to fit most sizes of coffee shop cups.


GAUGE: 24 sts = 5” (13 cm); 17 rows = 4” (10 cm) in sc. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

 

COZY:
With A for Jack-O-Lantern, D for Frankenstein or C for Ghostie, ch 13.
Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn – 12 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in back loop only of each sc across, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 8” (20 cm) from beginning, end with a wrong side row. Do NOT fasten off.
Joining Row: With wrong side facing and short edges aligned and working through top of last row and remaining loop of foundation ch, ch 1, slip st in each st across.
Fasten off.

 

FINISHING:
JACK-O-LANTERN
EYES (Make 2)
With B, ch 4.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew Eyes to front of Cozy. With C, embroider a small highlight in each Eye.

MOUTH
With B, ch 13.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in each of next 8 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last sc.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Curve Mouth into a smile and sew in place.

FRANKENSTEIN:
NOSE
With D, ch 2.
Round 1: Work 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook, slip st in first sc to join.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in back loop of each sc around, slip st in first sc.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew Nose to center front of Cozy.

EAR (Make 2)
With D, ch 4.
Row 1: Work 6 dc in 4th ch from hook.
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing. Sew one Ear to each side of Cozy.

EYE (Make 2)
With B, ch 2.
Round 1: Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, slip st in first sc to join.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew Eyes to front of Cozy. With C, embroider a highlight in each eye.

MOUTH
With E, ch 17.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Tack chain to Cozy in a crooked “W” shape for Mouth.

HAIR
Cut 1” (3 cm) lengths of B and attach to center
top of Cozy. Trim to ½” (2 cm) for Hair.

GHOSTIE
EYE (Make 2)
Work as for Frankenstein Eye.

MOUTH
With B, ch 4.
Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch, turn to work along opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next ch, 2 sc in next ch, slip st to first sc to join.
Fasten off, leaving a 12” (30 cm) end long tail for sewing. Sew Mouth to Cozy centered under Eyes.
Weave in ends.

These are such a simple, quick projects that Im going to earmark them for my junior students next fall. Even though there arent any assembly photos, the pattern is easy enough to follow. I will have to copy and paste into another document though, so I can make the font large enough for them to mark off each row as they finish. Its a beginner technique I like to use with my students.
