Kid’s Star Stitch Hat

Kid’s Star Stitch Hat
Kids Star Stitch Hat

"Try this on for size. Your little kiddo’s growing fast and needs a new hat to wear on those chilly days. This star stitch hat’s the answer. You’ll probably even want to make one for yourself (which can be done! Just add a few more stitches.) To make this hat, we grabbed a heather color wool yarn and got to work. Go for whatever color you can dream up – we think it would also be cute in ombre. To be fair, we think it’s cute no matter what, but maybe we’re a little biased."

NotesCh – chain, st(s) – stitch(es), sl/st – slip stitch, sc – single crochet,
Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
Increase = 2 sts worked in the same loop
sl/st in top of first st (not in ch 1)
Star stitch is worked in rows of 2 and explained in Round 10 and 11
For the sc cross stitch, keep your sc’s lose to keep the crosses from being too tight

I have not worked the star stitch in a pattern yet only a small swatch. But after seeing this Kid's Star Stitch Hat pattern I so need to make it. I like that this hat is made from the top down so you can add more rounds if you need them. I'm going to try to make this for myself and see how it turns outs. Thank you for sharing this free crochet hat pattern.

The instructions for this hat were a bit of a surprise. Just looking at the photo, it appears that this hat is worked from the bottom up and gathered at the top. Nope, its the exact opposite. I love working the Star Stitch, so finding it in a round project gives me all sorts of options. She doesnt give specific directions for making a larger hat but you could easily go up a few hook sizes (the original calls for size H).
