Materials:

  • RED HEART® Boutique™ “Sashay™”: 1 ball 1946 Ballet A.
  • RED HEART® Boutique™ “Doodle™”: 1 ball 1114 Cream B.
  • Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8].

GAUGE
: Gauge is not important for this project.
NOTES
Stretch one end of the Sashay open for several inches and lay it flat, placing the edge with the metallic thread along the bottom. Notice that the Sashay yarn is a mesh of holes. You will be working in the top row of the mesh and leaving the metallic edge loose to form the ruffle. You are
using the top channel of holes as if it is yarn. With A you will alternate an over under chain stitch around one strand of B forming a ruffly wrap.

SCARF

Cut 3 strands of B 108” (3 yds) each. A is worked while still in the ball.
Ruffle Wrap
Place one strand of A below one strand of B with ends even. *Insert hook into first hole at top of A. While wrapping around the top of B insert hook in the third hole of A and pull through making a chain stitch. Going under B, skip two holes of A and insert hook in the third hole, pull through making second chain stitch. Repeat from * alternating going over and under B to make Ruffle wrap until you reach the end of yarn. Cut A leaving 2” to fasten off.
Braid
With two strands of B and one strand of wrapped B/A tie a knot at one end. Braid the three strands together until you reach 5” from the end. Tie off in a knot.
Trim ends even.

I am facinated by this pattern, and will most likely make this scarf. I love the Sashay Yarn myself. It is the different and unusual things that always catch my eye. I'm not a "run of the Mill" sort of person. My granddaughter loves different accessories as well, and I so enjoy making things for this 25 years old young lady who is quite the snazzy dresser. Member 14414, I'm sorry for your need to contribute such an opinion. Too bad for you.

I don't understand people who come to a site and give ugly remarks! member14414 if you don't like it then just move on. Your remark was uncalled for! Thank goodness you are the only one who does not have manners! This is different and I think it will look good. I just wish it had a video and I wish the thread could be bought in a craft store. I don't shop online!!

I think I get it. Redheart.com does have a much better pic, but the key is the word "chain" instead of chaining from a single strand yarn you are working from both and "wrapping" or "twining" them around each other with your crochet hook. I hope that helps. As far as Member 14414, either they didn't look at the scarf close enough or it is just not their taste. I have seen plenty of downright ugly things on these sites and this isn't one of them. It is very different, true, but in person I would be surprised if even 14414 would think it was ugly.

That has to be one of the ugliest things I've ever seen.

If you go to the Red Heart website, there are videos on how to crochet with Sashay yarn that are most helpful in visualizing what someone is trying to do here. Look up Sashay yarn and you'll find it there.

A video would help with this project, it looks beautiful, but doesn't make sense in the directions.

Redheart.com does have a much better pic, but the key is the word "chain" instead of chaining from a single strand yarn you are working from both and "wrapping" or "twining" them around each other with your crochet hook. You are basically chaining one row and then braiding it with two strands of Doodle yarn.

I would love to crochet this scarf, but I don't understand these directions at all. It looks like the Doodle yarn is simply braided and not crocheted, but the ruffle wrap directions make no sense to me. Is there anyone who can improve on these directions? Example, there is no ch row as a foundation, yet it says to insert hook into the first hole at top of A. And then wrapping around the top of B is not clear. Can anyone provide a pictorial if the written word cannot be improved?

Redheart.com does have a much better pic, but the key is the word "chain" instead of chaining from a single strand yarn you are working from both and "wrapping" or "twining" them around each other with your crochet hook. There is no foundation row, there is only the initial chain of entwined Sashay and Doodle. That is then braided with two strands of Doodle. So, one chain, two strands, braided.

I wish that the photos on this web site could be enlarged in order to see the details more clearly.

you can go to redheart.com, type in the name of the scarf, and then you can enlarge the picture to full screen so you can see the details

I think this scarf is beautiful and different. I'm a little confused at the pattern. I'll 'puzzle' it out when I find the yarn. I imagine I'll have to go to AC Moore because it won't be availabe at my local WalMart. Anxious to try it. I think it would be pretty in yellow or pink too.

sashay yarn can be purchased at mary maxim.com and doodle yarn you can find at stuff 4knitting.com
