Glowtastic Crochet Ghosts

Glowtastic Crochet Ghosts

The best beginner project for Halloween is here with these Glowtastic Crochet Ghosts. Besides your typical hook and yarn for materials, you will also need some smart candles to put inside of each little ghosty. The effect will be perfect for the Halloween party you're hosting or just a little evening glow when it's still too warm for a fire. Work up a bunch of them to give out at little party favors, or keep them all around your own home as homemade Halloween decorations.

Materials List

  • RED HEART Super Saver: 1 skein 316 Soft White
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 4mm [US G-6]
  • 2 buttons for eyes
  • 2 safety eyes 10mm
  • Stitch marker
  • Sewing thread and needle
  • (19 cm) tall (candle base) Smart Candle (optional)

Special Technique Adjustable ring method = holding the thread a few inches from the end, wrap around your finger. Do not remove wrap from finger, insert hook into the wrap and draw up a loop of working thread. Chain one to secure the loop and remove ring from finger. Work stitches of first round in the ring. Pull gently, but firmly, on tail to tighten ring. Special Abbreviations inc (increase) = 2 sc in next sc. dec (decrease) = draw up a loop in next 2 sc, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Create an adjustable ring. Round 1: 6 sc in ring (pull tail of yarn); do NOT join but work in continuous rounds. Place marker in first sc of next round and move up each round 6 sc. Round 2: [Inc] 6 times 12 sc. Round 3: [Inc, sc in next sc] 6 times 18 sc. Round 4: [Inc, sc in next 2 sc] 6 times 24 sc. Round 5: [Inc, sc in next 3 sc] 6 times 30 sc. Rounds 6-8: Sc in each sc around. Round 9: [Sc in next 3 sc, dec] 6 times 24 sc. Round 10: Sc in each sc around. Round 11: [Sc in next 2 sc, dec] 6 times 18 sc. Round 12: Sc in each sc around. Round 13: [Inc, sc in next 5 sc] 3 times 21 sc. Round 14: [Inc, sc in next 2 sc] 7 times 28 sc. Round 15: [Inc, sc in next 3 sc] 7 times; join with a slip st in next sc 35 sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Placement for eyes: between Rounds 5 and 6, about 4 sts apart. For the special spooky effect, place the smart candle in the ghost, turn it on and turn off the lights.

These looked really intriguing! I love the idea of putting the little battery operated votives into the base. Wouldnt these be adorable peeking out of a potted plant? I usually only decorate my front porch for Halloween, so these are definitely going on my to-do list. Ill tie some onto my front door wreath, too. I might make a dozen or so up (without the candle) to give to babies too young for candy.
