Preemie Crown Crochet Hat
This adorable little Preemie Crown Crochet Hat is perfect for your extra special, extra tiny little one. Worked up with very simple crochet stitches, this crochet hat can be worked up in no time. Keep your little one warm and stylish with this adorable design, or just work it up for an adorable little photo prop.
Notes•Starting chain does NOT count as a stitch
•Each round is started in the same stitch as your starting chain
•The end of each round is joined by slip stitching in the first hdc of the round, not the starting chain
Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Crochet Gauge14 stitches and 12 rows = 4” (10 cm) in hdc
Finished SizeHead Circumference = 11.5" - 12.5" Hat Circumference = 11.25" Hat Height = 4.5"
Materials List
- Soft worsted weight yarn in Color A (White) and Color B (Crown)
- 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook
- yarn needle
Pattern
Size: 1 - 2 lbs
Head Circumference = 9.5" – 10.5"
Hat Circumference = 9"
Height hat = 3.75"
Round 1: With Color A - Ch 2, make 9 hdc in the 2nd chain from the hook, join in first hdc (9)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each stitch around, join (18)
Round 3: Ch 1, *2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next* repeat around, join (27)
Round 4: Ch 1, *2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 8 stitches* repeat around, join (30)
Round 5: Ch 1, *2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 14 stitches* repeat around, join (32)
Round 6 - 10: Ch 1, hdc around, join (32) - Fasten off after Round 10
Round 11: With Color B - Ch 1, hdc around, join and turn your work (32)
Crown
Round 12: Working in Back Loops for this round only - Ch 1, hdc around, join (32)
Round 13 - 14: Ch 1, hdc around, join (32)
Round 15: *Skip 1 stitch, make the following in the next stitch [3 dc, picot, 2 dc], sk 1 stitch, sl st in next*, repeat around, sl st in the join from the last round, fasten off leaving a lengthy tail (8 Crown Points)
Fold the crown right side up along the Round that was worked into the back loops and use the tail to secure it in place. Weave in all ends.

I really like the look of this little hat. I crochet hats for preemie babies for charity and I sometimes have a cuff on the edge. This "crown" look would be a cute variation on the cuff idea. I could see the crown being made in pink or blue as well as the yellow gold in the picture.
