This is the third version of this same hat pattern (the others being a Beanie and a Slouch). Because youre using a hair tie to create the hole, you are basically skipping the first few rounds of the Beanie. Otherwise the rest of the pattern is the same or very similar. I cant thank the designer enough for including stitch counts at the end of each row either. My students love that little safety feature.
