Four Leaf Clover Granny Square

Four Leaf Clover Granny Square

"This intermediate-level granny square works up in six rounds to produce a St. Patrick's Day themed clover motif. The pattern uses standard U.S. crochet terms. The key technique is the spike double crochet, where the hook is inserted two or more rows below the current round, giving the clover petals their shape and definition. Construction begins with a center clover motif worked in the round, which is then squared off using a border color with stitches of varying heights. A slip stitch surface crochet outline is added at the end using a long tail left from the clover color, giving the motif a clean, finished edge. An optional accent color round and single crochet border in round six allow for easy customization. You'll need three colors of yarn, a hook, and scissors. No turning is required throughout the pattern, so the right side always faces you. This square works well as a standalone project or as a repeating block in a larger blanket or an Irish or Holiday sampler."
