Nanas Favorite Baby Blanket

Neutral colors and a timeless design come together to create Nana's Favorite Baby Blanket. This classic crochet afghan pattern is a perfect crochet pattern to make for any new mom, including yourself! It's essentially a very large, multicolored granny square, so its construction is simple. The size of this particular baby blanket is classified as a "lovey," which means it's pretty small (it's approximately an 18 inch square), but it's super easy to adjust the pattern to make it into a larger blanket by simply continuing to work around the square.

There is nothing like a basic granny square pattern. I have made this pattern before and the results are limitless. It is an easy pattern and will crochet up in no time. Since a baby afghan is smaller you will have plenty of time to make one especially in the colors they choose for the nursery.

Anyone with a little experience can make this baby blanket. Once you start it is a matter of going around and around. If you are not a champ at changing colors, select one of those yarns that are veriagate and that problem will be solved. Love this blanket.

Granny square patterns are so quick and easy to make. This one in particular is lovely! I love the color scheme as it contains my favorite colors. I might even make one for my mother! sigh Now I have another project to add to my to do list, I do not think I will EVER catch up!

Granny squares in any design are one of my favorite to create. I love the idea that you can take the simplest of design and create something so useful.

This is such a beautiful pattern! I love how quickly and easily it works up. Its perfect for a summer rainy day project. The colors are so neat. This is gorgeous and exactly the blanket I was looking for. Thank you so much for this pattern. It will make a very pretty baby shower gift.

Baby Billy, just 3 months old, is going to be lovely and toasty warm in this gorgeous blanket. And I think I am going to use the beautiful color combination shown. This is also a nice pattern for our group that crochets wraps and knee rugs for the elderly folk at a local frail care facility. It is a quick and easy pattern and the color options are just endless.

My senior ladies love this pattern because its just a basic granny that keeps going and going until it gains the size you want. No tricky stitches, and the author has included a good photo of where to join a new color of yarn. She also finishes it off with a picot border but other than the written directions, she doesnt give any other links or descriptive photos. If youve never worked a picot, this would be helpful.

I really enjoyed seeing this pattern as it reminds me of watching my grandmother make granny squares all year long and turn them into beautiful afghans for Christmas presents. I would love to make this blanket for my grandson in shades of blue for his birthday. I love the fact that it is easy to make.

Hi Dianelynn! I made this for my new nephew - in his nursery colors grey, white, and yellow - it is perfect! I'm planning on making a larger one as a throw for a chair in the living room. A great new take on a classic!

There is nothing that I don't like about this "lovey"/ blankie. She picked the best colors. SO modern, neutral, and calming. I like the look of the giant granny square. It is easier and less time consuming than individual granny squares and then joining them together. It is a great project you can do on auto pilot without worrying about following a pattern. Again, I LOVE this!

When I go to the website it says error 404 page not found

Hi Lisa, It looks like the blogger moved stuff around on her page! I dug around and managed to find a new (working!) URL for this blanket pattern and have updated this page to include it. :) Thank you! Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

This is one of those patterns that is a real treat. It's very simple and easy yet it is gorgeous. Just change colors or use an ombr type yarn and it looks fantastic. I have stRted out making one for just a lap cover and kept going. It turned out queen size for my bed. But it took no time at all to work up. Thanks for this one.

I love the colors and the simplicity of the design. Can't wait to make this!

Perfect for our grandbabies with one or two changes in color it will work as well for our 2 year old granddaughter as it will for our 3 month old grandson. Thank You Lauren Brown!!
