First off, this tie looks a LOT better than I expected it to. I remember a truly hideous mustard colored, burlap looking item from the 1970s, so that was the first thing that popped into my mind. I love working the various incarnations of the Tunisian Stitch, so I have bookmarked this page so I can explore more of this designers ideas. If you can make a tie look good, youve got my vote!

Isn't it sad that you don't see as many patterns for men as you do for women? I like to make things and it is not often the finished project is just for my other half. He has a lot of ties now but I am hoping this one will warm his heart just because I made it for him.

I was wondering if it is necessary to have a Tunisian hook to crochet the Tunisian stitch? I have seen these crochet terms before and have never attempted them. I would love to suprise my husband with a tie and I like this pattern. Can anyone answer my question?

Hi Delphine! A tunisian hook is essentially a much longer crochet hook - you need it since you don't just work one stitch at a time with Tunisian crochet, you pick up every stitch and then close off the entire row, similarly to knitting. So, you CAN work a Tunisian pattern with a regular crochet hook as long as the width of the pattern is less than the length of your hook. :) Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

You can use a regular hook with some patterns. With Tunisian Entrelac, for example, you'd have 7 loops max on your hook and you can use a regular crochet hook. For these, I prefer to use a hook that has an ergonomic grip handle as the rubber handle acts as a stopper for the loops. This pattern would need a Tunisian hook since the stitch runs are longer. If you want to try Tunisian before you invest in a hook, there are a lot of youtube videos and written tutorials on how to crochet tunisian. Just google Tunisian Entrelac Crochet and you'll come up with a wealth of information! Good luck!

It wouldnt be Fathers Day without someone getting a tie as a gift. This Tunisian striped tie is definitely one of those gifts to give to the man who already has everything you could think of. This would be a fun gift to give to your husband and children so that they could match when they go to service.
