Crochet Hotpad from Beer Cap

This is such a neat crochet pattern that you have to try. It's also a nice recycling tactic with old beer caps. A crochet hotpad from beer caps is easy to make and will look great in the kitchen.

Easy

Crochet Hook9 or 1.4 mm hook (steel)

Yarn Weight(0) Lace (33-40 stitches to 4 inches). Includes crochet thread.

Back during my first Hippie Days in the 70s, I do remember recycling beer and soda caps into hotpads, but this isnt the technique I used. I clearly remember that the brand names were visible, and it was quite the cache to have unusual brands among your collection. We lived east of the Mississippi, so Coors was considered highly collectible since you could only get it out west.

I just love this Crochet Hotpad from Beer Cap pattern. I have been doing this for years now. The written pattern is right on and so easy to do. I like making them into different shapes and sizes and give them as gifts. I've made a couple of grape clusters with green leaves with a hanging loop. A really large apple shape for my daughter, that she loves. I'm working on one now that I'm using different colors of #10 cotton thread, thinking of making a pepper mint candy shape. The ideas are endless. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet pattern.

This looks super fun to make! My fiance would love this :)

this is one of my first crochet projects 50+ years ago learned from my grandmother we also made the same with yo-yos of scrap fabric

@SophieDophie: We suggest inserting the bottle cap before you begin decreasing rounds. Hope this helps! -- Editor of AllFreeCrochet

I ALWAYS READ PATTERNS THROUGH BEFORE STARTING ANY PROJECT, AND I NOTICE YOU HAVEN'T INDICATED EXACTLY WHEN TO INSERT THE BOTTLE CAP INTO THE CROCHETED PIECE. DO YOU WAIT TILL THE VERY LAST ROUND OR WHAT?

I know that this sound dumb but how do you heat the caps up? Soak them, because of the metal is the Microwave out, oven?

u can incert how ever u want on the caps it can be beer caps rootbeer caps pespi caps ive mad these now for years ive made lots of theses and now im selling them i crohet them the i take a needle and put them together ihave made them sinc i was a kid only thing is they were not made out of yarn they were made out merteal ive been making them now for 64 years and have put it on the ebay and the stuido 5

These were popular when I was young, back in the 60s. My grandmother would crochet them out of variegated purple thread and then crochet leaves on the end to make a bunch of grapes. Very pretty.

I would insert the cap when you start to decrease. I have done many in the past. I hope this helps.

Based on patterns I've used in the past, I would insert the bottle cap after completing the second last row.

You are exactly right! I read thru the directions, and they completely leave out when to insert the bottle caps. Guess they thought we would just know somehow!! Ha!

I know I'm going to feel pretty stupid when someone gives me the answer, but I have read the instructions from top to bottom three times and I don't see where the bottle cap comes into play. Can someone PLEASE PM me at pinkcaddy7@yahoo.com and help me out. THANKS.
