Easy

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS:

  • Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn, about 60 yards
  • Crochet Hook: H/5 mm
  • Yarn Needle

GAUGE:
Worked in sc blo: 8 sts x 9 rows = 2" square

SCRUBBY
Ch 3
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and next sc, ch 1 turn. (2 sc)
Row 2: Working in BLO, this row and all following rows, 2sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)
Row 3: 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Row 4-20: Repeat row 3, increasing 2 sts each row until you have 40 sts.
Row 21: Sc2tog, sc in each st across to last two sts, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (38 sc)
Row 22-38: Repeat row 21 until you have 4 sts.
Row 39: Sc2tog twice. (2 sc).

Border
Ch 1
Working into the side of last sc worked, hdc, *ch 1, skip one sc row, hdc.* Repeat *to* around the outside of the dishcloth. When you come to the corner work a hdc, ch 1, hdc in the corner and then continue on making sure that you are always separteing each hdc with a single ch 1. Join to the begining hdc with a sl st, break yarn and weave in ends.

This dishcloth is crocheted just like the much loved Grandma's Favorite knitted dishcloth! You simply add stitches on each row until you reach 40 stitches, then you start decreasing stitches to the last row. Working into the back loop creates a nice ribbed appearance, as well as a more stretchy fabric. The ribbing is also great for scrubbing! What color is YOUR favorite?
