  • RED HEART® Boutique Sassy Fabric™: 1 hank 9946 - Grey Chevron B
  • Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]

Notes

  1. Shawl is worked in increasing rows from one side to the center, then in decreasing rows to the opposite side.
  2. Hold fabric behind work. Always insert hook in hole from front to back of fabric and work into each hole of fabric to create fullest ruffles.
  3. It is easiest to pull from the center of the Sassy Fabric hank rather than from the outside. Slide the paper band to one end, remove the cardboard, and gently pull out the fabric as you work.
  4. Prepare the fabric for stitching by folding the cut edge to the underside of the fabric and holding first 2 holes together as one.

Special Stitches
beg ruf slip st (beginning ruffle slip st) = Insert hook in indicated stitch of A and in first hole of B, draw top edge of hole through all loops on hook.
hdc2tog = [Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop] 2 times, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook.
ruf slip st (ruffle slip st) = Insert hook in indicated stitch of A and in next hole of B, draw top edge of hole through all loops on hook.

Special Technique
Adjustable-ring method = Wrap yarn into a ring, ensuring that the tail falls behind the working yarn. Grip ring and tail firmly between middle finger and thumb. Insert hook through center of ring, yarn over (with working yarn) and draw up a loop. Work stitches of first round in ring, working over both strands (the tail and the ring). After the first round of stitches is worked, pull gently, but firmly, on tail to tighten ring.
Working with fabric = Spread B open with holes at top and wider edge at bottom. Continue to spread the fabric open as you work so that you can see the holes of the top edge. Stitches are made by inserting the hook from the front to the back through each hole and pulling the uppermost edge of fabric through the loop(s) on the hook.
