Cranberry Sauce Shrug

Dressing for Thanksgiving dinner can be tricky. You want to look nice, but not too fancy. That's where the Cranberry Sauce Shrug comes to the rescue. It's gorgeous, but comfortable, and perfect for wrapping around you when you're exhausted from stuffing yourself with the Thanksgiving feast. This free crochet shrug pattern will also be perfect for lounging around on chilly fall days. It's sweet and simple, just like cranberry sauce.

Crochet HookI/9 or 5.5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS:

  • Caron United Worsted Weight Yarn, Main Color (MC) Burgundy (06009) or Main Color (MC) Soft Grey Heather (06004) - XS/S/M, 3 skeins; L/XL, 4 skeins; 2/5XL, 5 skeins
  • Size U.S. 9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Large/Extra-Large
40-46”; [101.5-117 cm]

2/5 Extra-Large

GAUGE:
12 sc and 13 rows = 4” [10 cm]
2 Shells and 6 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Shell Pat

SHRUG

Left Side:

  1. Beg at center of back, ch 56 (62-74).
  2. Foundation row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Miss next 2 ch. [(1 dc. Ch 2) twice. 1 dc] all in next ch - shell made. Miss next 2 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. 9 (10-12) Shells.
  3. ***1st row: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2). 1 dc in first sc. *Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. 1 sc in top of next Shell. Miss next ch-2 sp and dc. Shell in next sc. Rep from * to last Shell. Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. 1 sc in top of next Shell. (1 dc. Ch 2. 1 tr) all in last sc. Turn.
  4. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first tr. *Shell in next sc. Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. 1 sc in top of next Shell. Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. Rep from * to last sc. Shell in next sc. 1 sc in 2nd ch of turning ch 5. Turn. Last 2 rows form Shell Pat.
  5. Rep last 2 rows for pat until work from beg measures approx 9 (11-13)” [23 (28- 33) cm], ending on a 1st row of pat.

Shape left armhole:

  1. **1st row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first tr. (Shell in next sc. Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. 1 sc in top of next Shell) twice.
  2. Ch 23 (29-35). Miss next 3 (4-5) Shells. 1 sc in top of next Shell. Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. *Shell in next sc. Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. 1 sc in next dc (top of Shell). Miss next dc and ch-2 sp. Rep from * to last sc. Shell in next sc. 1 sc in 2nd ch of turning ch 5. Turn.

  2. Working in rem loops of foundation chain, proceed as follows:
  3. 1st row: 1 sc in same sp as sl st. *Miss next 2 ch. Shell in next ch. Miss next 2 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. 9 (10-12) Shells.
  4. Work from *** to *** as given for Left Side, ending on a RS row. Fasten off.
