Tulip Petal Shawl

Tulip Petal Shawl

Crochet a shawl as lovely as a flower with the Tulip Petal Shawl. This crochet shawl pattern has a uniquely beautiful shape that mirrors the curves of a tulip blossom. By crocheting in the front and back loops of half double crochet stitches, this design features a cool knit-like texture alternating with the classic stitches you know and love. Wear this shawl draped around your shoulders on breezy nights, or wrap it around your neck as a triangle scarf for chillier weather. No matter how you wear this one-of-a-kind shawl, you’re bound to get compliments!

The Pattern

  1. R1: Make a magic ring or a loose slip knot and ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout the pattern), put 3 hdc into the magic ring or loose slip knot. =3

Pull on the tail end to close the hole. If you would like to easily add a tassel later, leave the hole loose.

  2. R2: ch 1 and turn your work. Working into the 3rd front loop: 2hdc into the same st, hdc into the next st, 2hdc into the last st. =5

  3. R3: ch 1 and turn your work. Working into the 3rd back loop: 2hdc into the same st, hdc into the next st, spike st (mark this st with a st marker), sk the next st (the st that the spike st is over), hdc into the next st, 2hdc into the last st. =7

  4. R4: ch 1 and turn your work. Working into the 3rd front loop: 2hdc into the same st, hdc into ea st across until you reach the st marker, sc into the spike st (move the st marker to mark the sc), hdc into ea st across until 1 st remains, 2hdc into the last st. =9

  5. R5: ch 1 and turn your work. Working into the 3rd back loop: 2hdc into the same st, hdc into ea st across until you reach the st marker, spike st, sk the next st (the sc that the spike st is over), hdc into ea st across until 1 st remains, 2hdc into the last st. =11

  6. Repeat R4 and R5 until desired length. To change colors, end after a R4.

  7. Cut the yarn, pull through the last stitch and weave in all the ends. Wet block with pins and add tassels if you would like.
