Princess Diana Vintage Crochet Shawl

Note: Shawl is worked in two halves. The first half begins at the center of the shawl and is worked to one end. The second half begins across the opposite side of the foundation chain and is worked to the other end.

First Half Crochet Shawl Instructions:

(beginning at center of shawl)

  1. Row 1 (RS): Ch 74, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [skip 3 chs, Shell in next ch, skip 3 chs, sc in next ch] across, turn.

  2. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same stitch, [ch 1, V St in ch space of next Shell, ch 1, V St in next sc] across ending with ch 1, 2 dc in last stitch, turn.

  3. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, [Shell in ch space of V St, sc in ch space of next V St] across, ending with Shell in last V St, 2 dc in last stitch, turn.

  4. Rows 4 – 51: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern. 

  5. Row 52 (WS): (Sc, ch 3, sc) in first sc, *ch 3, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next sc, repeat from * across ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in last sc and fasten off.

Second Half Crochet Shawl Instructions:

  1. Row 1 (RS): With right side facing and working across opposite side of foundation ch, sc in first sc, [Shell in ch below Shell, sc in next sc] across ending sc in last sc, turn.

  2. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same stitch, [ch 1, V St in ch space of next Shell, ch 1, V St in next sc] across ending with ch 1, 2 dc in last stitch, turn.

  3. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, [Shell in ch space of V St, sc in ch space of next V St] across, ending with Shell in last V St, 2 dc in last stitch, turn.

  4. Rows 4 – 51: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern. 

  5. Row 52 (WS): (Sc, ch 3, sc) in first sc, *ch 3, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next sc, repeat from * across ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in last sc and fasten off.
